Best sounding home recorded albums ?

hmmm... serious shit man? i like tesseract both musicly and productionaly just as much as sol niger within.. and to be honnest i just compared sol niger withins rhithm tone with some other records and it kinda fell flat man.. its to middy in my opinion.. lacks punch.. tesseract has BAGS of punch man..

Well the tesseract stuff definately sounds like they love the attack function on the compressor. It's almost like every beat is exploding in your face.

I think Sol Niger just has this kind of... depth to it. It's amazing to find out that at one stage he had 20 ADATs lying around full of tracks, so 160 tracks of audio which he ultimately mixed down to 3 tapes. Insanity.

Bah, i like Abagail II. Graveyard and Voodoo however, are another matter entirely. :yuk:

I have a deep respect for King diamond(after all i'm from Denmark)and i still think they are one of the best live bands around, but come on James those albums don't even come close to the albums from the 80's.

Sounds great! How is the guitar recorded? I bet this album will kick some serious ass after it's finished. I think it's now a little too muddy for my taste.

neumann TLM 193 :worship:

and drums are DFH superior.

i got the guy in my msn, i can ask him over if you guys would like that.

lol - that tesseract clip is really old. theres some much more recent stuff which i prefer. that part 3 clip was just with an sm57 and is muddy and crappy as hell.

i use a neumann tlm193 now and im borrowing a TL Audio mic preamp..some other clips:

http://acle_kahney.members.beeb.net/test_attila_tesseract.mp3 - just with POD

see what ya think anyway....ta for posting the tess clip up dude! :loco: :Spin:

and yeah its DFH superior - alot better sounding on these clips^

In my opinion Spider's Lullaby is one of King's best albums, it has many pure masterpieces on it.
Graveyard has some great tracks too, like Black Hill Sanitarium, Waiting, Heads On The Wall.
I think all of King's albums suffer from filler tracks, tho most of them have some of the best heavy metal ever on them. And the guitar solos!! Andy LaRocque & Pete Blakk must be the all-time best metal guitar team, seriously! Solos on "Them", "Conspiracy" and "The Eye" Some of the best metal guitar ever.
But still I have to admit I have been dissapointed by some of the recent albums. Abigail II & House of God didn't impress me much.

Could you please tell me what guitar gear you used? Is it miced amp or POD?
What amp & pedals?

So you recorded POD Pro direct on this clip? can you give me your settings? I don't have POD pro, only the old pod, but ain't POD pro just a rackmounted version of POD 2.0?

EDIT: I'm asking this because I'm going to home-record an metal album soon and I really have to record the guitars direct and I own only POD 2.0.

hey, that clip is with the POD direct yea - the other clips are with my ENGL powerball miced up with the neumann. All cleans are the POD direct though.

TO be honest settings do fuck all on that shity POD - i think i used the Modern Hi Gain model #1 or #2 ? Cab is the v30 or v70 4x12 - cant really remember now. Keep tweaking and you'll find somin - the bass sound is very important.
