best vocalist?

I like Dani's clean vocals, cant get into a lot of his "filthy" ones.

My favourite vocalist is Johnathon Davis, not that I am a fan of nu metal but he has an utterly incredible voice. He has an amasing falsetto (falling away from me on MTV Unplugged shows it off) and he can sing in many different styles, from rapping to metal roars and gruff vocals. He can do great dirty, wiry sounding almost black metal vocals but at the same time he is capable of doing perfect hamonised acapella vocals such as at the start of Daddy. He whispers, wails, weeps and does incredibly fast scat/gibberish... He is a role model for anyone trying to inject emotion into their voice as well as singers in an avant-garde (cross styles) band.

Saying this though, there are many great vocalists, Peter Steeles vampyric sounding sub-basso croon is a favourite and I love how Corey Taylor from Slipknot can go from basically grindcore vocals to something reminiscent of Elton John. Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth deserves a mention somewhere in this thread so there it is.

Mikael Akerfeldt hands down best vocalist ever. Incredibly beautiful soft vocals, and he is my favorite growler, he sounds so brutal, plus he's got a great black metal voice as well.

Mikael definetely has a distinctive quality to his voice, I love both his clean and dirty vocals but as far as growling goes he does it very well but I would give my nod to Frank Mullen for best growler.

- Children of the Boddom Vocalist

Undefinied style:
- Mike Patton he can do everything with his voice, can you remeber his singing with one of the best saxofonist?

No. If you say this then Jason Mendonca of Akercocke must be beyond the best. Because he can do everything Mike does better (far more brutal death vocals, far more range with clean singing and black vocals) and can do much more. I can't believe he wasn't even mentioned.

There are heaps of other great vocalists, but I just wanted to point that out to the Akerfeldt worshippers.

eh yea, I am no fan of Opeth but Mike's DM vocals are nice, his clean vocals however and nothing special at all. Doesn't even sound like he is attempting to sing.

Yes I know Mike is good, but i'm saying everything he does Mendonca can do far better and with better range. Listen to HIS death metal vocals, truly demonic and possessed.

For Death Metal vocals I have always been a fan of Mike, but Burton Bell is very under-rated, he has a great clean voice as well.

Mike Patton is probably the best vocalist of all time, not my favourite but he is incredible.

Also, what is with all the power metal vocalists? And no mention to Fabio Lione either. High-pitched male singing is not that hard, what is more impressive is the falsetto range of singers like King Diamond which I have not seen mentioned at all in this thread.

Dax Riggs when he was with Acid Bath was a most amazing vocalist. if you havnt heard their album "When the kite string pops" your cheating yourself. and Sammy on backups on that album is just Ill. their ability to go from melody to pissed off evil death screams. is unmatched. and when it comes to lyrics. there is no equal.
