Hey chaps!

You might be interested to know about BFD Heavy. It's a pack I've been using internally for ages now, and FXpansion finally released it.

BFD Heavy

It's a Yamaha Recording Custom and Birch Custom Absolute - and they sound great, imo of course!

If you own BFD2, you should definitely check out this pack!

Pretty much everything : guitars are muddy and have no definition, drums are weak, too raw and not loud enough for the most part, etc.

I think the drums could be fine it's mainly the guitars IMO, just the tone it's kinda cardboardy...

I pretty much agree with P-E. You can barely hear the drums themselves over the guitars which sound like they're not even running through a cab. You must have done something drastically different for this mix to sound so bad in comparison to the clips on their website.

Hmmm. I'm using RevalverMKIII instead of Podfarm; and its running Redwirez impulses. What are you listening on for you to think there are no cabs in this mix?

If I were you I'd start mixing with the kick and bass, then work out the snare, then OH's, then guitars finally, at each step making sure the overall sounds the best it can. My mixes tend to be balanced better that way, IIRC ahjteam posted a similar method.

If the guitars have to overpower something in the mix and are at the right loudness, it means the tone isn't dialed right.

Is there a screamer on these guitars? They sound a tad muddy and adding one if there isn't any would do no wrong IMHO.

Hmmm... well that is how I started mixing - with kick and bass, then snare, then ambience channels; guitars were recorded after the drums and bass, so tone was moulded to everything else. I've done everything you've suggested with this current mix - there is indeed a TS on the guitars. I'm wondering if I'm using extremely dark impulses; only thing I can think of.

Yeah seriously, I think it's purely the guitar tone having a big impact on the sound of everything else. The drums really sound fine, as much as you know I don't want to say it :p
