Big Fucking Earthquake

I'm hoping for a similar message from my father who's there playing with orchestra.

Hey guys thanks for your concern. I am in the southwest near Korea and we have not been affected at all. Ironically my TV is broken and I spent all evening watching movies and practicing violin and am only now catching up on the news.

Everyone I know in Japan has been accounted for. If you know people there, the phones are all clogged up but you can check and see if they left a message.

Reports from friends

One guy who works in Tokyo on the 12th floor of a special earthquake-resistant skyscraper felt strong shaking and wobbling, like a boat rolling and pitching. He walked home for 3 hours because all the trains have shut down.

A couple are sleeping in their cars parked on hills.

Another friend in Chiba was outside walking when it happened. She couldn't stay balanced and just kept falling over for five minutes despite holding onto stationary objects.

One went to her English tutoring session and one of her 8 year old students had his name and address written on his arms in black marker.

Here is the big ass whirlpool I saw that randomly decided to appear.

Hey Kramps, USGS is still showing a fuckload of earthquake activity in Japan, and that you guys have been having 5.+ earthquakes all night. What the hell is happening to the subduction plate off your coast?

This sucks, I love Japan. My gf was suppose to go there some days ago, but shes currently in China. Scary shit...

I have no idea. My TV is broken and my Internet connection is spotty and slow. I am right by Korea and very far from coasts.

Wow, I guess I missed a lot when I was sleeping. Hope everyone on here who could be affected is alright.

Well, look at this:

"One of Japan's high speed bullet trains is missing"; hopefully that's a translation error and they just can't get in contact.

Also, this is a great little graphic to put things in perspective:

Hawaii was threatened with a 2 meter tsunami, whereas Japan was hit with a 10 meter monster

edit: "Oh shit, Diamond Head is suddenly all bare reef... fuck."
I'm playing catch up at this point.
