bitten by the 7 string bug

I have an Agile, and I got my friend to buy the les paul with the active emg's, his is nicer obviously, moreso because mine is just white and his is finished(looks fucking amazing irl) but they both rock shit I seriously couldn't find anything wrong with either of them.

I think im gonna muster up some more dough and buy the baritone silverburst LP :D

I dont have much ltd experience cause I've played two esp's that sucked. And if you think epis are chinese crap your misinformed too, as I was 2 months ago. Then my old man bought a korean epi from the unsung factory. It's as good as any asian guitar out there. I also recently played an epi explorer that was chinese that was actually quite nice! Granted ive played half a dozen that sucked previously. Also an epi goth V from unsung that was great everywhere except fret size (a gibson thing). Unsung guitars have a serial beginning with U, UC appears to be chinese.

So you're saying that because Epi's are made in China they are worse?

Wouldn't that mean that a Korean made Agile is technically *better* quality than an Epiphone with the same specs? And possibly even better than an LTD?
Yeah... that's basically what I'm saying.

About the specs... an Epiphone Prophecy Les Paul like the one that was posted before has almost identical specs to a Gibson Custom Shop Zakk Wylde signature. That does not mean the Epiphone is even on par with the Gibson... you know what I'm saying?

Just because on their spec sheet it says 'Mahogany' under 'body wood' for both, that does not mean *at all* that the same quality wood was used to manufacture both.

Just because you played an ESP that you did not like means that ESP's suck. That is a fact.

As I've said, I have not played an Agile myself, so I cannot comment on that.

On a side-note, I did not know Epiphones were also produced in Korea. That must be their higher end models, no?

Yes, the Epi lp custom is made in korea (at least my 1998 model) and is a very good guitar.

I have one of those Prophecy Epi's pictured above. And it has actually become my main live guitar recently, though owning guitars that are waaay more expensive (like an USA Dean etc.).

I've beaten the living hell out of it (smashed the bridge pickup through the frame into the cavity, teared a strap-lock off, ripped a poti off, smashed it into a face...) and it still delivers!

Quality hardware, woods and pickups, good construction - I'll agree on many Epi's being far off the bang-for-the buck that some LTD's are, but these thingies compete VERY well.

BTT: If I was going the 7-String route, I'd highly favor the Loomis sig. It's awesome.

I was mainly pointing out I dont bother with ltds cause the esps weren't much chop. I've seen a few that looked ok (both esp and ltd) but mainly stay away from them. And epiphone guitars were made in the usa originally remember!

I've played $3k PRS's that I could have just as well played softball with after feeling a pure rip-off in my hands. I've played cheapo Stagg guitars that make me take a second look and play em again. Guitars are like people, they all have thier own personality and even then things can't be trusted. Last time I was in a Guitar Center (Spokane, for the Summer Slaughter tour), I tried 4 different guitars and all I wanted to do afterwards was backhand the staff because they were all fucked up. They all needed adjustments. So, in that sense, even some guitars *could* be great but are shit just because they have been on display for so long that nobody cared to clean and tune them up. One of those guitars, the bridge pickup was so high that it was making squealing noises from the string grating on it when I played it...and some GC fag is peeking over a stack of amps giving me the eyebrow like I'm fucking something up.

I've been playing sub-par Ibanez's for about 11 years now, and have liked them because I can just mod them. I actually liked the fact that midline Ibys came with fake floyds (Lo-TRS) a few years back because they were easily replaced by Original Floyds...I have two that I did this with. I have an EC1000 that I've had for about two years...it was given to me used for not busting knees over money owed. The only thing wrong with it is whoever the guy got it from that gave it to me, they were fuckin with the bridge saddle screws & nuts and lost the nut on the 2nd string so I have mild tuning problems on that string from the saddle moving back and forth during play. Short of buying an entire new bridge, I can't fix that...but otherwise the guitar is great and I use it quite a bit anymore. Finally, I have a cheap-ass Schecter C-1 that I won in a contest: satin brown, black hardware. Except maybe dumping new pickups in it later, its a workhorse! All guitars have different personalities, and some just need some work to be made to rip.

I even played a goth explorer a couple weeks ago and was pretty disappointed. Then I picked up a nice tele (http://img3.musiciansfriend.com/dbase/pics/products/7/2/4/269724.jpg) and was thoroughly impressed...and I usually hate tele's.

+1 I've owned my Epiphone Les Paul Custom for 6 years and that thing can fuckin take a beating. It sounds damn great, it's a tank and it's made in KOREA not China. I'd take it over a LTD any day of the week. The quality is much better IMO it just doesn't come with your flashy EMG's. That new prophecy series is NOTHING like the Zakk Wylde custom shop! Ebony fretboard, satin neck, EMG 81 (not HZ), 24 frets, jumbo frets. NO where on the Epi ZW model. Well just throwin in my honest and fact information. ;)

If the higher-end Epiphones are made in Korea and the lower-end ones are made in China, doesn't that kinda prove my point that Korean guitars are better? :)

And to be honest, I haven't tried the Epiphone LP Customs. You might be right about that one... are the Prophecys also Korean?

Surely the build process, machinery, labour skill and quality control of the individual factory has far more of an impact than it's geographical location or the nationality of the staff?

Consider that USA Fenders are mainly built by Mexicans in the USA.

Oh and I forgot the key point: how much the brand name is willing to pay the factory to build it for them.

Yes sir Prophecy models are Korean. Yeah man all agreed Chinese guitars suck 99.456% of the time... :)

And seriously guys, you can't on rag companies like Epiphone for selling "overpriced" gear, cuz the higher models pretty damn nice and are really solid guitars and last time I checked ESP/LTD isn't a small mom and pop company selling hand made guitars. It's all player preference to the guitar. Take your pick on what suits you best, but it's ridiculous IMO to call high end epiphones shit. After owning one for 6 years and not having one problem with it at all, I'll stand by the beast.

That's moreso what I was getting at Rex :D The only reason the Chinese made guitars are worse is well...they are 300$ less and lower grade guitars.
