bitten by the 7 string bug

Seven strings are fun... a big factor to think about (bigger even than pickups, really, because those are more easily changed) is the neck you like playing. I like baseball bats, so I went for a Schecter Blackjack C7.

I don't have an Agile yet, but I have a Brice bass (made by the same company in the same factory as far as I know) and it's amazing... and ask 006 how it sounds (when I'm not diming the treble because I'm a wanker) and looks. I have *never* had anyone guess that it cost me less than three times what I paid for it.

7 strings are like women with real big hooters.

Up until now I had a hundred reasons to NOT buy a 7 string. With this line, you have destroyed any defense I had. Now I gotta buy one cause I fuckin LOVE big titties and to not buy a seven string would be nothing short of gay.

go on sevenstring.orgll they talk about agile guitar all over the place... for me a killer 7 string = mahogany body with a dimarzio evo7 in the bridge...

I looked at the Agile Septor 7's and if they were $300-ish I'd buy one but for $599 fuck I could buy a much nicer guitar used and have some money left over. Unless theirs are top-quality, which I doubt, that price isn't competitive.

Also, on the point of 'competitive' I don't think having EMG's and being neck-thru as the Septor is makes it a quality guitar. I've seen plenty of neck-thru pieces of shit in my time.

I dont have much ltd experience cause I've played two esp's that sucked. And if you think epis are chinese crap your misinformed too, as I was 2 months ago. Then my old man bought a korean epi from the unsung factory. It's as good as any asian guitar out there. I also recently played an epi explorer that was chinese that was actually quite nice! Granted ive played half a dozen that sucked previously. Also an epi goth V from unsung that was great everywhere except fret size (a gibson thing). Unsung guitars have a serial beginning with U, UC appears to be chinese.

FWIW - I have played probably a dozen Epiphones ( Mainly the V's and Explorers ) over the years hoping I'd find a 'good' one and I have been consistently disappointed in them. I have heard their LP's are nice though.

The only LTD 7 strings I played were a couple H-207s and H-307 and the necks on them were total Louisville Slugger but they seemed solid.

I do have a quandry though. I had a C-1 Classic a couple years back I loved but I had to sell for $. Since then I've tried several Schecter 7 strings and all of them felt very cheap and/or had big-ass necks on them. Is there a good/bad series/model to get? I'm assuming the more expensive ones are better but there's not much of a selection around here so I can't really play the whole range of models to make an opinion on them.

If I can't find a Schecter I like I'll probably go with the RG 7621 cause they average $350 used and are supposedly real nice ( aka: wizard neck ). I'm not necessarily a thin neck guy. My MusicMan has a fairly big neck on it but it's shaped real nice. I guess it's somewhere between a Gibson and an Ibanez. The LTD 7s I've played were retarded though. Very 2x4-like.

Love the HellRaiser C7, the neck is big but it doesn't bother me in the slightest bit. The older BlackJack C7 and ATX C7s are all the same specs (size-wise) to the HellRaiser, just different features. I wouldn't purchase anything other than those 3 series, HellRaiser being at the top. I played one of those Silhouettes at GC a few weeks ago btw, not my cup of tea on the feel, it sounded nice though through the 6505+ and Marshall V30 cab they had set out. I've been contemplating getting a 7620 or maybe even a 7321 and modding it out (that's one thing I did like about Ibby's is the modding...not that you can't do it to any other guitar, it's just for some reason it's actually fun on an Ibz) since the other guitarist in the band I'm starting doesn't have a 7 and we would like to both have one. The thinnest necks on 7s in the market will be Ibanez, no doubt about that. Schecters have big necks, but IMO the tone reflects that beef. The LTD 7's that have been discontinued for a long time now are suppose to be steals on the used market, haven't played one though. Honestly for 7s, unless you go custom or "no-name" like Agile, the dominating companies will be Schecter and Ibby.

Have you played them? I have a guitar coming out of the exact same (non-Chinese, for fuck's sake!) factory, and it most certainly does not look, feel, or sound cheap. What the fuck is this, Harmony Central?

Jeff

Keep in mind that with the big-names you're getting what you paid for... less marketing, endorsements, middleman costs, arbitrary markups, and a few gazillion other things. So... I get what I paid for, and you get less than what you paid for. The bass survives *me* - I'm about as graceful as a drunken bear, I abuse *everything* to see what it's capable of, and I'm about as close to "professional warranty-voider" as someone can get.

Jeff's bass is really nice guys, I've seen and played it in person and wish it weren't discontinued so I could snag one myself. I don't know about anything else on rondomusic, but the bass that Jeff bought is top-notch, I was shocked when I heard how much he paid for it new. I didn't believe it until I saw it online.

Oh sorry, yeah that's the bass. It looks killer in person man. I wanted the 5-string version but they discontinued it a long time ago :(

damn, I'm searching and searching for the loomis schecter without floyd rose, and I can't find it anywhere, at least not in europe :(
A few months ago when I had no money, they were all over the place, now that I DO have money, they are nowhere to be found.
any ideas on where to look?

Agiles look cheap, Korean, Chinese whatever - you'll get what you pay for

Hahahaha.....How do they look cheap? Just because you've never tried one? Ridiculous that everyone's bashing these guitars because they are 2-300$ and haven't even tried them. My Agile fucking rocks any other guitar I have so that's the bottom like :D

That guy isn't to spectacular but you can get an idea of how close in sound they are...Of course it sounds different though (diff pickups) but I mean jesus christ...That is NOT a $2000 jump in quality of guitar, im sorry. If you show me a guitar thats $2k+, and a guitar that is 300$, sounding and looking IDENTICAL.....yeah im gonna go with that :D
