Bizarre avante garde metal

You're probably familiar with them, but check out The Mezmerist and Dwarr if you're not. Oh, and Graven Image/Spectral Incursion too, but they have some thrashy tendencies if that matters.

Maybe try White2 the first track is drone metal while the other two are more of an experimental atmospheric nature. One of the tracks has a guest vocal appearance by Attila Csihar from Mayhem.

cannot stand Diablo Swing Orchestra or uneXpect. Both bands are one trick ponies doing something wacky for an album or two, and then they're gone. They're all flash and no substance.

I don't really have anything for this thread but I will second Arcturus, which is mandatory for anyone interested in 'avant-garde metal'.

Or if you want to try a quirky prog rock band with a touch of metal, there's Spock's Beard. This is by far the best song of theirs i've heard:
