Blood Givin'

Jace_Mereel

Freakame, Freakayou!
I went to give blood today. The lady had set the needle up (I love watching them do it) and my arm started to go numb. I start to feel really woozy and give the ol' "excuse me, I'm light-headed". Next thing I know, I wake up with a bunch of people around me, putting wet towels all over my face. My side is soaked because I apparently spilt the soda I was holding... but I got a new one.

All in all, it was fun. I've never passed out from anything before and it had the after effect of feeling drunk. I'd do it again.

I'm just sad they can't use the blood they did get. That and they didn't really know why I passed out.

And that, my friends, is my story. Go ahead and share yours, if you feel so inclined. I'm still trying to get back to normal. :loco:

I donated not too long ago ...they had the bag propped up on a table or something a little higher than arm level and someone smacked into it, knocked the bag off, which of course was attached to a tube leading to the big honkin needle in my arm, so it ripped it out of my arm and hurt like a bitch. That was the last time I gave.

Were you THAT nervous? The blood taker could have just been a noob and taken more blood than she was supposed too. Or, as I recall, I think you're supposed to have eaten something before hand.

Usually anxiety would hasten the effect due to how it affected breathing, and possibly heartrate (blood not oxygenating). If your breathing wasn't normal, and you are losing blood, you would be more likely to have oxygen depletion to the old gray matter, hence passing out.

I did have an empty as I planned on picking up some food afterwards. I didn't think I was nervous enough faint... my breathing wasn't irregular or anything. She did keep moving the needle around in my arm as if looking for a better spot or something, but I couldn't feel it.

Eww, veins. I don't like having blood taken with needles. It can burst out of my crotch with the force of a sandblaster and I'll giggle madly. But needles, blech :yuk:

The first time I gave blood, I didn't pass out, but I got dizzy and a little nauseous. I wasn't nervous at all, but I had only eaten a bowl of Fruity Pebbles that day. I guess eating nothing but sugar had something to do with my reaction. I'm up to 30-some donations now and I haven't had a problem since that first one.
