Hey folks!
First of all: I did use the search function and I didn't find a topic wich was quite fitting my point so I decided to create a new thread.

The reason why I made this thread is because I was recently going through my whole bodom collection and I paid special attention to Alexi's vocals. One thing which I personally thought was pretty significant was the level of power of the vocals in the albums. In my opinion Alexi's vocals aren't as powerful as they were in the earlier times. Of course vocals are (like instruments) a matter of development but I don't really like the newer Bodom vocals...
What do you think about this matter?

PS: One example of fricking awesome Bodom vocals is the Aces High cover...

I -CERTAINLY- agree, and have noticed this myself.
A good scream can't last forever though, he's fucked.
I don't think it's because he couldn't do it anymore. His technique nowdays is just a bit different than what he did before. He just gradually changed his vocals more into Phil Anselmo style screams sometime in ~2002 and he's always said that Phil was one of his influences in vocals. Personally I like the new shouting better. It just sounds way cooler to me and he's added more variety in it, which is always good.

Fucking hostile is a good example of the similarity:

I think Hatebreeder has the slowest and thus most blackish vocals. I wouldn't mind having faster music and slower vocals again.

I like his newer vocals. More variety in both pitch and tone, the ability to more clearly understand the lyrics without having to go read them. Previously his vocals basically act as another instrument added to the mix. That's fine, but it is quite static sounding, which kinda bores me. Sure they were more br00tal perhaps, but that's not really my thing anyway. Yeow-yeow!

Well about the Old Vocals..You couldn't hear a fucking word he was saying, but it was still awesome. With the newer you can hear most lyrics but it's a little bit different..I kinda like both equally

Agree with both of you. I think by changing his style of singing through the past years and getting helped by guys like Tägtgren he gained both more technique and variety. Which allows him to do vocals he maybe wouldn´t have been able to do ten years ago. Sure a voice changes by itself while getting treated with alcohol and smoke, but that ain´t the point. I think one can´t deny that he´s doing better (in the way of more professional) than he did ten years ago, but the real question is: What do you prefer, old and "untechnical" Black Metal style of growl, or newer, technically influenced screams. And that´s just a kind of opinion as always ;)

I have to say that I grew fond of the new style, but yeah, nothing beats the old style.

But since their music isn't Black Metal the vocals don't have to be BM either.

Although I do prefer the fact that nowadays he looks to have more stamina (no idea if that has to do with the style he uses now. Probably yes) and is (a bit) better understandable.

But we all know vocals are by far the weakest part of CoB and I honestly couldn't care less. They where great and they are fine.

i think alexi is just developing his own style, True very few vocalist sounded like alexi back then, but he's still one of the most recognizable voices in metal, he's just finding something he likes, and if he's find it with the newer vocal style then great, cuz he's a musician and musicians constantly yearn to grow and expand, who knows maybe the next time you hear alexi it'll be a whole new sound, or even he sticks with his current sound, thats what he wants and thinks is best for the music.

Alexi's vocals number 1 !!!

Oh dear...

I prefer old vocals also. I hate this new LoGish style of singing what Alexi is doing. Old vocals had more atmosphere also. Brutal as fuck.

Here is a great example of the old vocals.

His vocals was so awesome back then..
