I couldnt help but notice the unnusual name of Mikael's departed grandmother. Is that a nickname or what? I bet it is. I have never seen a Swedish name like that. Bojan is a popular male name in the Balkans.

theres a spanish footballer named bojan (in barcelona fc), however i think one of his parents is serbian

Yeah. Bojan is a name to be found in Serbia, Slovenia, parts of Croatia,Bosnia, Republic of Macedonia and Bulgaria. It is considered primarily an orthodox christian name, but is also found in the catholic Slovenia and some of catholic Croatia as well.

My grandmothers youngest sister was called Bojan. Don't know if that actually was her name or just a nick-name for something else. Can imagine they were from the same generation though and she didn't have any ties to Slavic culture that I know of.

true

you could tell if mike was serbian anyway, because hed be getting in fights with bosnian and croatian fans. all those nations hate eachother

You obviously have a good well researched opinion about it ...
Your location as being the best country in the world explains a bit about your stupidity I guess.

theres been fighting in that region for years, and also in albania. ethnic bosnian muslims were constantly being purged by the christian serbs

the place where i live, 'the greatest place in the world', has many yugoslavian immigrants, and ive seen plenty of fights between them erupt into all out brawls, over a game of soccer

Oh god, is it possible that every single thread Vaushke posts in becomes a huge pile of streaming shit, partly because of his idiotic comments about his supposedly onniscence and partly because of all the shit the other users (and myself) throw at him. Really, I can't stand it anymore.

He joined this month and has like 300 posts. Wouldn't that explain the general quality of his posts?

Guy has good jazz taste though.

Mike signed one of his MySpace blogs "Lars" Micke Åkerfeldt, or something like that. What's up with that? With that. That.

so carta, you hate what i say and cant stand it anymore, yet you still fling shit? wouldnt it be easier and more mature to just ignore something rather than flame back? croatians vs serbians vs bosnians is one of the oldest stereotypes here, and its been around for many many years. fly here and watch a game of soccer, an ethnic serb team playing an ethnic croat team. its a bloodsport lol

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Sarajevo#Ethnic_cleansing "Serbs who refused to participate in the persecution of Muslims were killed. In a Serb-army occupied area of Sarajevo, Serb militants killed a Serb officer who objected to atrocities against civilians; they left his body on the street for over a week as an object lesson. During one of the 'selections' carried out by Serb militants in Sarajevo, an old Serb named Ljubo objected to being separated out from his Muslim friends and neighbors; they beat him to death on the spot."

and yes, i know that all serbs and bosnians and croatians are not like this, but there is a significant amount of hate between these groups of people, and alot of it has been carried through generations to families that arent even living in yugoslavia area anymore.

Bojan is common nickname among elderly Swedish ladies.

If your name is something like Ingeborg, Valborg, anything ending in "Borg" (quite common names for women born in the 20's and 30's), it is more than likely your nickname is Bojan.

Oh dear, look what I started. Before this goes any further, I can confirm what Vuashke said was right. Are you from Australia by any chance Vuashke? Recently there was a big fight between Croats and Serbs in Melbourne after a tennis match between those two countries and the funny thing about it is that they all were pretty much born and raised in Melbourne! Btw, I came from Bosnia and know all about the hatred, not only between Serbians and Bosnians, but also Bosnians in between. Orthodox Christians or Bosnian Serbs against Muslim Bosnians particularly.

yep im australian

just to clarify again, im not saying that these people genetically hate eachother or anything like that, or even that its as bad as i first stated. most of the time its more like an intense rivalry, kind of like i guess a more intense version of australia vs great britain. i know plenty of serbs- and croat-australians and they are great people, its just that sometimes they dont mix well.

religion is a major facet of it all i think, but also there seems to be alot of struggle for independence. i know that yugoslavia broke up, then serbia-montenegro split up too. slaydon, can you give any insight into this? what was it like in bosnia, did you experience any fighting or racial tension or what have you? are you a muslim bosnian?

edit: no offence meant, slaydon

I am half muslim and half orthodox. So you can say I was really stuck between two fires or between hammer and the anvil! Of course, not all of these "nationalities" hate each other. It's all politics and politicians know how to stir this up, that's how they won. Nationalist politicians of course. Note how I wrote nationalities. Until 1990 there was one nationality in Bosnia-Bosnians. But then these nationalist parties came and suddenly there were 3 different nationalities! So today we have Muslims (or Bosniaks, as they prefer to call themselves), Serbs and Croats. Serbs and Croats are Orthodox and Catholic Christians. It's complicated and has roots in history. I'd rather not get into it, someone else here might get offended. Don't wanna get thrown off this board for arguing over this nonsense.

Yeah, Bojan is a name you can find here too (male).

As for Croatians vs Serbians. It goes way back, culminated with Yugoslavia/Great Serbia and the war that followed in the early 90s. I can still remember the air raid sirens LOL. Tough times.

Never heard that before. Where in Sweden do you live?
