Bonus tracks

eye of the tiger would be really cool! DANCING WITH TEARS IN MY EYES!!! it would be an AMAZING way of showing if the new singer has got passion! you could redo p.o.d.'s song alive (that would fall under the "contemporary" genre i think). a cover of hearts on fire by hammerfall would be cool, how about hotel california?

A cover only if it is done in your style.

As much as I like HammerFall, they fail miserably with covers, in that they are almost 100% replicas of the original.

Also, I think a cover should be for a more obscure band.
It will help expose those not yet familiar to that band.

I really like the idea of doing an older tune with the new lineup.

PLEASE stay away from an 80's pop tune.
It serves no purpose and always comes off cheesy in the end.

Definatly an 80's cover, if done right it can open the band up to newer audiences

we did a cover of the 80's classic Roxette's "Listen to your heart" about a year ago in conjunction with a local promoter who runs charity events for Papyrus prevention of young suicide charity, after fraser and nicks friend hung himself in the flat next door to them.

Although it was a one off thing we did for charity, we also found it opened our music to LOADS of other people who may not neceseraly like power metal at all! they appreciated how well the song was covered, totally different from the original yet still has that kind of 80's feel to it, with a dose of our power metal edge to. huge success of a song...especially on youtube!

So i definatly recommend the 80's idea :)

Although Id love to hear a re-recording of an PQ Oldie to...i just cant think which one...possibly edge of time, or Far Away....cant decide ><

Oh and if anyones interested...heres the 80's cover we did *shameless plug*

Honestly I think Jump would be the perfect song for Power Quest to cover, given that amazing synth tone from Neverworld. Pleeeeease.

I can't stand the band either, aside from a couple choice songs, and that's one of them

jump would be fucking awesome! and so would dancing with tears in my eyes, freedom call proved that that song is AMAZING in power metal form. how about broken wings by mister mister? that might be really cool!

yeah, 80's cover would be great. or what about a cover of eye of the tiger? haha, but too many bands have made covers for that song already.

I'd like to here Black Winter Night by Dragonforce but with keyboard melodies instead of guitar...that would be cool >.<

I'd have to say that a cover of "jump" or a DF song would probably be the most unlikely things to ever happen even though I'm a big Van Halen fan and have been since around 1982/3. If we did a VH cover it would undoubtedly be something off 5150 or OU812

@Ricki: Great cover! And for charity too, very nice :)

Steve: just make it something that's not been done before. Be original, please don't cover something that's already been done over and over again.

Since my last idea obviously didn't strike too many of you as a good one, how about power-metalling a song from a somewhat 'rougher' genre of metal? Do an early Scar Symmetry cover, perhaps Soilwork or something similar?

maybe a cover of where dragons rule ;)

nah I don't know then..maybe a symphony X cover might be cool, is there not some sort of rule to what songs your band can cover?

Yeah lol Wikipedia sais the demo version of Where Dragons Rule is extremely rare, maybe not if PQ remasters the original:p

It's good to hear some reluctance towards (*sigh*) DF and Van Halen. Not good enough for a PQ cover IMHO.

I'm going to agree in part with the request for an 80s classic or an original rock/metal track no one has done before but I'm going to stress again that though it doesn't have to be a predictable and obvious choice...obscure and unknown bands/songs can put a lot of people off. A happy balance is what's needed here and above all one that sounds kick-arse! :kickass:

Well, it sounds like 80s cover is what most want.
Here then would be my suggestions:

AFRICA (by Toto)
99 RED BALLOONS (by Nena)
TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART (by Bonnie Taylor, or whatever)
