someone ever tried to boost an engl fireball or an high gain head with a boss sd1?

do you like it?

the SD1 is a little modded 808.

i tried it in an AB comparison and i would say the SD1 is a bit more plastic sounding. Not as smooth as the 808. Could be cool on a 6505 or any other more raw and dark sounding head. But with the Fireball i would be careful.

And many say that the Engl amps dont work very well with boosters at all. But i never tried it myself with the fire/powerball.

I haven't used a stock SD-1 in a while, but I have a GT-OD now, and I like it a lot. It's supposedly very similar in design to the SD-1, sounds a bit more polished though, the SD-1 is not very linear sounding from what I recall. Both the SD-1 and GT-OD are the type of pedals that add gain and saturation, so not the most transparent of things, but they can sound very good into the right amp. ENGL's I'm not sure of, I've only used my OD808 into an ENGL.

SD-1 tends to cut more low-end than most traditional TS's.

SD-1's also tend to be a bit brighter and slightly less middy, IME.

Jake, actually, I believe the GT-OD has more in common with a traditional TS than with an SD-1... unless you flip the internal switch to ZW-OD mode. :)

Sd-1 is my favorite boost for my Mesa, I actually sat at guitar center one day and did a shoot out of all the overdrives they had in stock on my amp with my guitar and the boss was the favorite followed by the bad monkey. I actually picked up a ts9 recently for dirt cheap and gave it another shot on my dual rec and still hated it, so im fairly certain it wasnt just my ears that day.

Yep and it is ok on the fireball. Almost to much for it because the fireball has so much fucking gain on tap. and also the fact the amp is pretty scooped by nature the sd1 make's it sound even more scooped. and that's with the mid's completely pegged to 10

on the clean or on the ultra gain?

Cool. Fireball 60 or Fireball 100?

Hi guys Today i decide to buy an engl fireball 100 instead 60 awtt
do someone knows if i can easily control the volume on this head?
I mean is that good on small venues
Is engl cab with v30 good?
does is better 4x12 or 2x12 in small venues?

I play a ENGL v30 cab myself and can only say that I love it. But it weights a ton

Sounds great with my Peavey Windsor, which has too much weight around the waist as it is. SD1 cleans up the fat and turns it into a roar.

Wish I could say the same about SD1 and Krank but they go together like Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown -- seems like it would be a perfect match but...

I loved it on my 6505. Tightened it up real nicely.
Also use it with my Mesa Studio pre. That preamp can be quite flubby at times, but the SD-1 works its magic and turns it into a firebreathing beast!
