Why is the band against bootleg dvd's? Is it just because they don't make money off them? I'd love to see a video from the V tour only because I was 7 years old and didn't know who they were.

Nope, it's a quality thing..MJR is a perfectionist & hates that stuff gets out there that may not be as high quality as something he'd choose to put out there.

That's fair enough, there's some really bad quality videos on youtube that I cringe when I see them because it doesnt do the band justice.

I would be the same way. Listening to the youtube clips of Symphony X shows that I have actually been to is nothing like actually being there. It's like someone put a pillow over the sound and the spirit of the performance. Properly recording the sound takes a dedicated effort, both in set-up and production afterwards.

Btw, you can see what the band was like in the bonus footage that they released, from in France I believe it was? Playing Out of the Ashes. Short, but good.

Oh I totally understand that. People taking 20 second videos from their cell phone and putting it onto youtube isn't what I really call a bootleg. I hate that too.

I'm talking about if someone took a decent camera that had decent sound and picture on it and recorded an entire performance and traded/sold it on a DVD. It would be different if they had their own pro shot DVD but they don't so people like me who weren't there to see the V or Twilight in Olympus tours can see them.

It would still sound bad. You need to have a sound board with separate line-ins for the different instruments and mix the whole thing for it to sound decent. If you want any quality at all you're already approaching a professional-type thing.

Well I have a collection of Dream Theater bootlegs on VHS that sound good. If I could go back to 2000 and see the V tour I would be since I can't do that I'd pay to see anything from that era.

really the crap that gets put up on youtube is sickening. I have no idea where those peoples heads are at, like cant they hear how crappy it sounds, how bad the video is, and even worse because they are screaming and trying to sing along, out of time and off pitch. I have little doubt mankind decended from monkeys.

I almost didnt go to see SX because of what was up on youtube of them. I became totally convinced they were a band that could only do it in the studio. Live recording for close duplication is very hard especially at the volumn levels SX was put at by the horrible soundman that did them for the show I went to. Then theres room acoustics, forget about it, I would be dead set against this myself.
