Born of Osiris Studio Vid

A Higher Place was done by Zuess (which was a huge let down, worst Zuess mix ever)

Zuess didn't mix A Higher Place. They tracked it with Zuess and then for some odd reason had Andreas Magnusson mix. It's the same guy who mixed the latest Despised Icon. His mixes seem to have a specific sound where everything is really really up front. Especially the guitars. He made it work for Despised Icon, but it just doesnt sound pleasant on the BOO recordings. Would be cool to hear what a Zuess mix on the BOO stuff would have sounded like.

I rly don't like any of the mixes on the BOTAstudio page... :\ ... i hope that Osiris will sound better...

I dunno if you've ever seen them live, but thats pretty much just how he plays. Very very odd playing style, but it seems to work

Interesting... Plus all the drums were triggered I saw. Maybe they'll just replace 100%?

I doubt they'd keep any of the real drums. That bass tone just sounds massively heavy. I'm interested to see how this one sounds compared to their older stuff.

The studio is pretty close to my house. I've done some work with him. He's really only done work with local acts. So im surprised that they chose to record there.

The stuff I've heard come out of there hasn't been anything phenomenal.

No doubt though its a nice facility. We'll see what he comes up with.
His production name he goes by is "dB" btw.

Wow Jason you where licking my ass about the Thyateira production when you where looking to intern with me???? Still want it?

Well there were instances with other bands where the drums would be locked to the grid after recording the guitars, which wasn't a great method of recording in my opinion. I also got the distinct impression that he didn't know a lot about triggering/quantization/using a DAW to its fullest extent because some of the novice questions that would be asked.

I must say though that after watching these videos, the sounds and recording techniques have changed and I think this BOO stuff should sound sick. :headbang:

I'll be happy to shed light on that comment, well I have been using midi and triggers for about 12 years or more as I was one of the first beta testers for Opcode systems with the Studio Vision Pro software and was endorsed to them up until the fine company Gibson scooped them up and killed another fine company, so I'm quite aware how that process works.

My thing is I have bands that come in with $500 bucks and they want their recordings to sound like a As I Lay Dying or Soilwork cd but the drummers can't play at all so rather than having a really bad drum take I would replace the drums from audio to midi lock that to the grid and then get the rest on with drums. So I can only fix so much with a very limited budget.

I have stressed with all the bands coming in to any studio to take a good amount of time and do pre production, practice to a click and ONLY come into the studio once songs are tight, but again young bands want the world for cheap, fast and take the ez pro tools way out.

This. Listeners don't really take things like this into account even though it's the case more times than not.
