Help! I purchased this sucker online a while back and it didn't come with the manual. It works ok but definitely not perfect-- I want to make sure I've got the signal chain set up correctly. How should I have it set? I'm running a digitech digidelay with a 5150 but still getting a lot of feedback.

you can find the manual on the bossus.com website. you might need to register or something to get it, but you can for free..

a general question, which do people prefer, something like the NS-2 or a rackmount gate like a Hush? I know they work slightly differently, in that the NS-2 uses the guitar signal for the gate's trigger; and the hush just uses whatever's passing through it...so I'm curious what folks generally use? I'm looking to eliminate feedback myself...

Feedback is what you're trying to elimate? First, run the delay in the effects loop. Then, run the NS-2 infront of the amp, with the decay at 0 and the threshold at about 3 o clock.

I run an NS-2 infront of my 5150, and it works wonders. I might get rid of it when my G-Major arrives next week, though.

Yeah, it can be a pain in the ass. Infront of the amp, it kills your guitars signal, so theres nothing to feedback. Works wonders, that way.

Also, try out the "4 cable method."

Guitar into NS-2's input, NS-2's send into the amps input, Amp's FX loop out to NS-2's return, NS-2's output into the Amp's FX return.

Basically, you're isolating the preamp into the NS-2's loop.

Woah, that works??

I use the 4 cable with the send setup etc, and its probably the best buy , play with the settings - but its really tightens up the whole band live - great unit

Have anyone of you noticed the "slow attack volume effect" with this 4 cable method? By this effect I mean that if you play a chord, the volume signal increases to normal level from lower level, like there's a too slow gate opening attack.

If I set my threshold about 12 o'clock, where my humm, noise and unwanted feedback is killed, this increasing volume effect is noticieable. There's nothing wrong with the tone. I'm using this with 5150II

also, the NS2 is not really a noise gate; it's a noise supressor, which in this case is a bit different.

a gate can be set to a certain level(treshold) at which it will eliminate all input lower than that set level(treshold).

from what I've read and experienced, is that the NS-2 "knows" what your guitar signal is and what unwanted noise (crackles, pops) in your sound is; and can seperate your actual signal from the noise; and suppres the noise and thus not your signal;

pay attention to the red led; if you hit a chord; it wil graduately become red after letting it ring for a while; but your signal won't get much weaker; it just eliminates the unwanted noise; while letting your actual signal through;

correct me if im wrong! i think this is in the manual as well..

just my two cents!

No problems with mine, I use the same setting is Malmsteen which is Thresh: MAX, Decay: 8'o clock. I never have to change it :)

Thats using it in front of the amp.

For my live rig i run a ns-2 on the front end and a Super C in the F/X Loop and i get machine like noise suppression and gating.

^ +1

i've never found the 4 cable method to be effective enough to hassle with it. It affects the pick attack in a way I don't like, and in an effort to lessent he affect on attack, I lose the feedback suppression I desire. I can never find the right balance. Having it up front is just so easy and effective. I don't run any effects, so I don't have to worry about the loop as is.
