well i feel the same way about 'goth culture" as I do about the black metal scene. PEOPLE JUST GO TOO FAR! I mean i go to shows in a band shirt, but some people show up all corpse-painted out...how lame is that? If you're at the show, we get that you are a fan! No need to go overboard!
The goths though, DO piss me off. I mean there were guys I knew in High school who would sit around with their jackets over their heads at lunch just so they wouldn't get any accidental sun. And the whole "I like this band because they represent my horrible teen angst even though they are 30 year old millionaire rockstars but they really speak to me so shut up" thing is just lame. None of these so-called goths even listen to any gothic music. At MOST they may have seen a Sisters of Mercy shirt somewhere in thier older sisters closet before, but thats about it. Its funny though, all these so-called "individuals" (who are more alike than any other group of people I've met) all started dressing normally and became likeable nice, outgoing people once they hit college, as they realize the whole "alienated misanthropic youth" image doesn't go over too well with the hot college girls. Some individuals, huh?

Well you said that goth chicks are hot. that might be true and all but i think 70% of them are fat, angst teens who want to "rebel". They listen to staind and linkin park. they dont even listen to any goth music. they are just doing it to look evil and miserable. some of them are cool and very hot but i would say the majority isnt.

I think we're putting too much value on clothing and looks. Personally (and probably because I'm a guy), I dont' work too hard at my outward appearance. I buy and wear clothes I like - if they happen to be part of a trend, then I guess I'll be stereotyped as being in with the "in crowd". Always the problem when you make judgements on what you see.

I have only seen 'goth' kids at school who wear Hot Topic clothes and try to be unique. There is a group of them who stand near one building and smoke. I only know one girl who goes to my old school that is described as gothic but has intelligence and doesn't dress that way to be different.
Personally, I don't put too much thought into how I dress. I typically wear jeans and a black band t-shirt. I don't try to dress a certain way in order to be labeled as something. I support the music I listen to by wearing the bands' shirts.
I must say that Hot Topic sells some ridiculous clothing. I have never been in one because I avoid going to the mall and hardly leave my house. I have been to the site once or twice looking around to see what it was all about. Those bright green, yellow, pink, etc. pants with 80 pockets that have the strings hanging to the ground are funny as hell. The selection of band merch on their site was also very funny.

you seem to forget your words when you say not all goths are like that. The fact that everyone here takes a "fuck goths" attitute pisses me off, its too stupid and too elitist to support. And please stop your crap, there is no discussion about goths its just goddamn clothes and you are not describing the mayority of goths you are describing the mayotity of teenagers, like all other teenagers they are insecure and seek to identify with a group of people, much like the metalheads with they hate towards anyone who is close to them, who the fuck do metalheads think they are do they own the rights to look evil or have long hair or wear dark clothing? its plain stupid how you and all metal people overreact to numetal fans and goth people and other shit. Goth is not an issue, is clothing and vampire Larp, and teengares seeking for they personal image, just like cowboys or hardcore kids or skaters or whatever. I know what alot of you are saying though, and how there are different groups of gothics.
Gothics that are only out there trying to be scary; people out there who think they are gothics because they wear a black coat and listen to Marilyn Manson; "I hate the world and the world hates me - I slit my wrists" typical gothic teenage stage, etc etc...
The list is endless, yet all gothics are not complete fuck ups like alot of you are stating.. but obviously, not in those exact words. I hate the way some people meet "the gothic sheep" then claim them all to be like the rest... I fucking hate that.
I'll be with some friends, and they will introduce to me to someone and they will automatically say "Oh, so you like Manson too?".. I get that all the fucking time.. Of course I screw my face up and say no, but the point is a fuck load of people think that gothics are all the same, and they ARE NOT..!

I do not dress gothic to impress anyone, to fit in or what not...
I don't even know what you would call my dress style, but it probably does fall into the catagorey of 'Gothic' because I love medieval clothing such as the beautiful satin and lace dresses, the long silk skirts with the trails, corsets and waspies.. and I do not spend hundreds of dollars in clothing just to be 'cool' or with the 'in crowd'.. I do it because I love it and it's who I am, and I could not be more happier than what I am today.
My point is, is that not all gothics have the same personality, we are not all doing it for the same reason, we do not think the same nor do we feel the same. Alot of gothics are beautiful, intelligent people, and have something important to say.. they are worth listening to. So, do not just open your eyes and complain about the way they look because you do not even know them. Image IS NOT everything.
