Build Own Guitar; Explorer Kit

I didn't use a kit, but I bought a neck and body from Warmoth, EMG 81/85 and Schaller hardware. It cost me about $800 and took an afternoon to assemble once the finishing was done. I still use the guitar, it sounds and plays great.

I haven't look into this too much but are there any issues with getting a neck of a particular length for intonation purposes? I think I'd like to build myself a Warmoth at some point.

I suggest you read up on warmoth, they have great guides on everything. They also offer specific necks for specific pockets and specific lengths etc.

Warmoth has some cool stuff, but damn they are expensive. What I did is buy a guitar that look like it was beat to hell and just refinish and customize them. Right now I am working on a B.C. Rich Ironbird. I picked it up for 40 bucks. For about another 40 dollars I was able to buy the products to refinish it. Working on putting a new fretboard with custom frets on it right now. I can upgrade the pickups and hardware later.

Side note: for some great tutorials good "project guitar." They helped me a whole lot so far.

The Warmoth Explorer body shape is not the same as the Gibson Explorer shape.
