Bulldogs!!

You may well be right there actually Spiffo... Still, its quite strange, clearly they are a great side, even though I despise them as well, but they cant seem to get over the line when it counts.

Can anybody tell me the logic behind 1/4 of the Australian side being selected from a team that got knocked out in the first week of the finals, and hasn't even been near a Grand Final in years? Four Bulldogs and four Roosters, even two Cowboys I don't have a problem with, but for mine the Panthers were a consistently better side all season than the Broncos, yet who's representing them? Why is Kimmorley there for God's sake? Do the Broncos really deserve having six players picked in the squad when there were at least five better sides (taking their finishing position in the finals into account), at least one of which didn't even warrant getting a player in the team? It's bullshit.

Yeah, I think the Broncos are a bit over-represented. Obviously Webke and Lockyer are first-choice picks, I doubt anyone would disagree with that, and Second-Receiver is an obvious choice... but Carroll is an evil turncoat who only plays for the country that will further his needs (when he went to England he played in the World Cup for NZ because he figured he couldn't be picked for Origin anymore, but as soon as Langer was picked from Warrington he changed his tune because of the precedent - and now that he's back he doesn't want to know the Kiwis), Berrigan has a dodgy hamstring and Tate is injury prone and isn't anywhere near as good as he used to be.

Oh, and the Broncos were one game away from the grand final in 2002 but lost to the Roosters in the second-last game. I'm sure that was the case as well in 2001 to the Eels, but I'd have to check. And they got knocked out in the second round of the finals this year (lost first to Melbourne, then to the Cowboys).

However they finished, it's wrong. I'm not going to argue with Lockyer's selection because he's brilliant, and Webcke because he's a solid rep player, but the others shouldn't be there. This just goes to show how much sway Bennett has. If Brisbane had actually played in the Grand Final, the whole team would have been picked, but even when they don't make it, half of them still get selected. Boo.

I dont think Bennet had any say in the team actually, he said he was stepping back from selection completely because of the farce with Anderson forcing them to pick Kimmorley all the time.

Perhaps, but don't think the selectors aren't trying to keep him happy by putting his favourite players in the side.

Bob McCarthy said:
Shaun [Timmins] was considered but he along with the two Penrith guys - Waterhouse and Joel Clinton - who played a Test earlier in the year, we just couldn't fit them all into the team"

If you hadn't picked half the Broncos side, those guys could have made the team, fucknut!

NZ team to play Australia:: Brent Webb (Warriors), Francis Meli (Warriors), Nigel Vagana (Cronulla), Paul Whatuira (Penrith), Matt Utai (Bulldogs), Vinnie Anderson (Warriors), Thomas Leuluai (Warriors), Jason Cayless (Sydney Roosters), Louis Anderson (Warriors), Ruben Wiki (capt, Canberra), Tony Puletua (Penrith), Joe Galuvao (Penrith), Sonny Bill Williams (Bulldogs), Motu Tony (Castleford), Roy Asotasi (Bulldogs), Nathan Cayless (Parramatta), David Kidwell (Melbourne).

Also named in extended squad: Paul Rauhihi (North Queensland), Jamal Lolesi (Bulldogs), Clinton Toopi (Warriors), Dean Halatau (West Tigers), Wairangi Koopu (Warriors).

The NZ team looks alright, though I expect the Aussies to beat them comfortably, but then I expect that every year and NZ manage to surprise me sometimes.

It's sad when a team has to rely on a guy who has hardly played any games this year as their halfback. The last game I remember him playing was the last Australia-New Zealand test in April! He's played games since then, but not many.

Who is their halfback?

Its not really a bad team all up, especially the forwards, im quite looking forward to this game :headbang:

Thomas Leuluai. I'm sure it's just until Bradford are done with the Superleague, then Robbie Paul will take over. Or Motu Tony.

Never heard of the guy...

Tony Carrol picked over Shaun Timmons... What a strange world these Rugby League selectors must live in.

Nice to see they picked loads of Dragons players. Bastards.

Grand final 1999 - 107,000 people in attendance, and I was one of them. :headbang: Pity Melbourne were gifted the game courtesy of a blatant forward pass. :(

Clarification to my earlier post about who was the last team to lose two Grand Finals in a row. That would be the mighty St George Dragons in 1992/93.

Go you Dragons.

Carroll has played quite well, especially in the last rounds of the comp. NOt sure what the go is with leaving timmins out though, that's a weird one.
