Burzum - The Fallen (2011)

"Fallen is the 9th studio album from Burzum, and follows the highly critically acclaimed 2010 release Belus which put Burzum straight back at the at the top of the chain as of one of the most innovative and creative metal artists of our time. Fallen follows Belus in sound and structure, and can also be compared to the music on the groundbreaking DET SOM ENGANG VAR. Fallen is more dynamic and hard hitting then Belus and has an even bigger sound, but still carries the same trademark melodic melody lines throughout that makes Burzum sound so iconic and unique.

Burzum says of the new album and his style of music:
"Musically FALLEN is like a cross between BELUS and something new, inspired more by the debut album and DET SOM ENGANG VAR than by HVIS LYSET TAR OSS or FILOSOFEM. The sound is more dynamic – we mastered the album as if it was classical music – and I was more experimental than I was on BELUS in all respects. Lyric wise it is similar to the debut album, in the way that it is more personal and focuses on existential issues, but the mythological undertone known from BELUS is still there. I have also included some ambient tracks – a short introduction and a longer conclusion."

I. Fra Verdenstreet
II. Jeg faller
III. Valen
IV. Vanvidd
V. Enhver til Sitt
VI. Budstikken
VII. Til Hel og tilbake igjen"

Well, only a year after "Belus" his releasing another one. "Belus" was a surprisingly descent album, so I guess this will be picked up. Will this be another "Darkthrone" phenomenon with a new release every year and lacking more and more in quality? Did you enjoy "Belus" and ready for another one? So far the only thing there is to say is, "weird ass artwork..."

Belus was an enjoyable album. We'll see what this new one brings.
Cover is not bad, but looks like an Estatic Fear album or something like this.

All of Burzum's essential works were recorded between early 1992 and March 1993, with the vast bulk of it being written between June 1991 and March 1993, so if history is any indicator, I would say no. But of course that time period was clearly his most creative and productive period, being at the birth of his inspiration. But he's had a considerably long layoff, so perhaps he's prepared for another prolonged stretch of fertile writing and recording. It's certainly possible to get such a second wind (see: John Brenner of Revelation/Against Nature)

I'm still not sure this is a legitimate Burzum release. It look pretty fake to me, the Burzum logo, the album cover etc... And yet it is still not confirmed on his website. It is just a leaked news spread on the forums.

Good!

i liked belus quite a lot too but it did kind of feel like another drop in the pond ultimately. i want this to be outstanding or i'm gonna start losing interest.

Until I hear it from Varg this is a fake news release. For one the Burzum logo does not match since Varg has chose the new logo that is on Belus. The cover of the album is terrible for a Burzum release.
