Can't decide which ENGL head to get...

Yeah, like was said above, the Blackmore may have less gain than the savage but it has WAY more than you'd ever need. I run my gain at about 5-6 on mine. Dont see how youd need anymore.

The Blackmore is based off the savage and is supposed to be a more stripped down verison with a bit more clarity and not quite as aggressive.

Its still easily heavy enough for any kind of metal you can throw at it.

You really should check the Invader 100 out. It's one of the newer ENGL's and it really is worth checking out. I am not a big fan of the Powerball/Fireball amps, but this is a completely different beast.

4 channels with separate EQ's, midi, built in noise gate with adjustable treshold(can be turned off), two FX loops, two master volumes, different modes etc. Yet, it is very simple to use and you will get great tones the moment you turn one on.

I have played a lot of amps in my time as a guitar player, and this really is one of the best amps I have had the pleasyre to play through! Very versatile, it can cover a huge spectrum of tones, due to the fact that all the channels are voiced differently. Yeah, it also has a great clean channel. I could go on praising the amp, but just go and check it out yourself.

I recorded a couple of clips with my Schecter Hellraiser C7 -> Ibanez TS9 -> ENGL Invader 100 -> Mesa Recto 4X12" -> Shure SM57 -> Focusrite Saffire PRO. The clips can be found here: http://www.soundclick.com/tomir

I was going for a Nevermore meets Demanufacture era Fear Factory tone. Only one guitar track with low pass at 12khz. I think it could need a bit more mids, but what the hell, methaaaaallll!

Are there any other good signature amps by 70's/80's heavy rock guitarists out there? Considering how great the 5150 and Blackmore are, any 70s/80s rock icon's signature amp must automatically own for modern metal haha... I need to add something to create the holy trinity of tone!

Hmm, sounds pretty awesome Tomir, though I'd prefer to hear multiple tracks and with drums - I like "New Invader Clip" A LOT more than Rifforama, so keep up the good work!

Thanks!

The riff'o'rama was tracked about ten minutes after I got the amp , so yeah, the new clip sounds a lot better because I have gotten more comfortable with the amp.

You are right about the multiple track/drums etc. I just need to get my stuff to my kit and get some drum tracks up.

I compared my Triple Recto with the Invader, and I still do prefer my Triple Recto, since it sounds more organic, raw and dominating, but the Invader comes very close and sounds awesome in it's own unique way.

My bandmate had a fireball and it totally fucking sucked balls(bought a blackmore after that and now his sound is godlike). propably the worst amp I've ever heard. (no kidding! a valvestate has sounded better to me) the powerball has something similar crappyness going on as well...

BUT, the savage and blackmore(bought this a week or so ago) are fucking monsters. tight amps. they kill. Haven't heard the invader live, but based on the clips I've heard, it kills.

has anyone heard anyone that has the special edition head? haha it's like 3500e!

I just bought a Blackmore, should be here in a few weeks! Soooo glad I read this post, I've heard mixed reviews and this is very reassuring! Make some clips dammit!

I had session where I used a 5150 and the engl together and it worked out pretty fucking good. You check it out here:

2 blackmore's and 2 5150's through a harley benton v30 cab(it sounds good, not kidding!" panned both 100/100. pretty equal volume. I used the "red" channel of the blackmore, the low gain one that is with a ts-7. I could've used the normal hi gain channel (green) without a ts-7 and it would propably been even better....

right now I'm mixing a band where I used only my blackmore(quad tracked though). really well mixable sound! only need to tame that low mid area so it doesn't take too much space in the mix.
