Celestion G12 century speaker

The guitarplayer in my band recently installed a Celestion G12 century-speaker in his cab and it totally rocks! It made a huge difference to the recorded sound compared with the "standard" marshall speaker.

Has anyone else tried it and what do think of it?

Thanks! I was just checking out the celestion website and I don't know how to choose between the G12T-75, the G12 Century and all of the others. They have a guitar tone selector thingy on the site, but it doesn't really help me. I have a 50W closed back Hughes & Kettner 1 x 12 combo (yeah, I know it's not the most brutal stack on the planet) and lately I have this annoying buzz at certain frequencies which leads me to think my speaker is dead. I haven't opened the amp yet though. Should I see some crack if it really is the speaker that is the problem? It has a Celestion RockDriver 12" in it now, which is ok, but since it's only made for H&K combo's I'll have to go with something different now.
I want the best metal tones possible with this little amp. I also play in a fusion band, but I'm more critical when it comes to metal tones than cleans and medium gain.

So, the question I hope you guys can help me out with is: What speaker would be the best choice in my closed back 1 x 12" amp? I'm basically clueless, some of the things I need answers to are:
Are the G12T-75 and the G12 Century suitable for a closed back, or is it better to choose something with less lows to keep it from getting muddy? To me, H&K combo's have way better low end than say Marshall equivalents I've played and that's why I'd never buy such a Marshall combo. Then again, the Marshalls I played were open back. Are the G12T-75 and the G12 Century good when used as a single speaker or do they 'need' a 4 x 12 cab (seems like a weird question, but the celestion site only recommends the G12T-75 for 100 W stack)?

I'd really appreciate your harshest opinions on this, because the celestion site pretty much tells me that all of their speakers have great crunch, great cleans, nice solo definition and that every speaker is suited for many styles. Ehhhrm.... yeah.... right...

Oh, could you please be a little more specific on what the tonal changes were with the century compared to the goldback?

I've just opened it, checked all the wires, plates, springs and whatnot. I couldn't find anything loose that could cause the buzz. I had a close look at the speaker and as far as I could see, nothing's wrong with it. So, I just put everything together again, double checking all screws, hoping the buzz would have disappeared in miraculous fashion...........

of course it's still there :Smug:

So what do I do? The only thing I can come up with is to try and get hold of some other speaker to put in and find out if it's the speaker or the housing that causes my agony. The problem is, where do I get another speaker... I'm not eager to spend more than E100 just to find out if my old speaker was broke...
