Children of Bodom - Cover Thread

Thanks everyone!!

Wow that's an awesome cover!
Hey just wondering...On your Loomis C7 FR, are you able to palm mute your second string easily? because I can't! And is your tremolo really hard? Like... can you make the chirp sound like Laiho's? I'm asking those questions because I have the same guitar as you.

Second string as in the low E (I refer to the B string as the second, low E sixth)? I don't have any problems muting... and about the whammy bar do you mean flutters? I can do them, try tightening the tremolo bar so it is stiff and doesn't move. By the way, I love this guitar... best investment ever.

Awesome playing Altitudes, love the Loomis model.

Action is f**ked on my guitar so this is the best I could do.

Dude, that sounded fookin' great! That bit in the song reminds me of Sinergy, and you played it well.

I'm talking about the B string alright. And yeah.. the flutter...I can do it but my floyd stabilizes too fast and it doesn't sound as long as Alexi's. I guess I would have to lower tension on the back of the guitar? My trem bar has been tightened with teflon tape and it works quite well I have to say.

My Cover of Are You Dead Yet?, I recorded it like 1 year ago. but I think i'm gonna do " Not My Funeral " soon.

Ugly chorus+solo:

Went back to a less distorted sound, and tried compression for the first time. Tell me whatcha think!

Well, this solo's not very hard. Plus I simplified it a bit. The "intro riff" is much harder.

I do acoustic violin covers when there's actually acoustic violin in the song (or covering for other similar-sounding instruments). IMO it sounds better to do distorted violin when covering electric guitar parts. I only used to make "acoustic" covers for Bodom because I didn't have an electric violin at the time. I like distortion, but I haven't made up my mind about compression yet.

I don't know whether it's because of your playing or your distortion, but it sounded awful. And I also think you should try playing it without distortion. I like the idea of the vid though.

@Arcane
Der ging unter die Gürtellinie xD

@Crzy Aus
To be honest. Some Parts sounded really cool, but this Distortion sounds like a broken Super Nintendo System...
Try this Cover with Natural Sound ;)

You purists :( I'll try an acoustic-sounding version sometime.

Though any more specific comments on how to make the tone sound better would be appreciated. Part of the problem, of course, is that it's not running through an amp for recording. Still, I always have trouble getting a good "lead" tone.

I don't know how else to say this, but that sounded awful. What do you expect from your tone? Its not a guitar... If you wanted to play guitar parts from heavy metal songs why don't you pickup the real instrument...

^ Yeah, I'm real jelly of that guy's tone but I have no idea how he's getting it. AFAIK he makes his own pedals, so :( I'm mostly a classical musician so I'm more or less a noob when it comes to effects and other electronic stuff. As a violinist that guy is kind of :| though.

TBH i think my tone for riffing/percussive stuff is passable, but lead tone I just can't get right.

Anyhow, I think I'll try to re-record at some point, once i get more free time.

I have been learning a bit of guitar and probably will probably learn it decently once i get the time to put in. That's not really the point though. I got an e-violin to experiment with effects and that's what I'm doing. So specific suggestions on how to improve the tone beyond "it sucks" are very much appreciated.
