Chords on a bass?

I'm a guitarist, so I don't know much about bass. In writing bass lines, is it acceptable to ever hold down two or more notes at once? I've loved the way a bass chord of G and B sounds, I also love the sound of G and A#. I know it sounds good on the bass alone but could it work in a song?

Of course it's acceptable. You're a musician. You can play what you want.

I play chords all the time for my band. I started messing around with em when I was heavily into Windir and Kampfar.

Use what sounds best to you. The bass guitar is nothing more than a guitar with less strings (usually) tuned down an octave.

With my last band, before we brought in our 2nd guitar player, I would throw in some chords whenever our guitar player would solo to help fill in the sound.

yeah dude. chords on a bass rule. be careful though. sometimes the sound can go downhill if u get carried away.
