Church of Australian Metal

That's not a bad list of stuff, definitely some good Aussie metal in that lot.

I used to work with the drummer from Taipan years before he was in that band. He was a powerful little drummer in the early days. The Taipan albums are pretty good.

Axatak were okay but I only saw them live three or four times.

No Remorse I reckon I saw their first or second gig but don't remember them that well. They went on to be Persecution from memory.

Necrotomy we hosted about 6 times at our local venue, they were quite popular with most crowds.

Sanctum I've got that EP sitting in the cabinet, had out a few months ago talking to @Satanstoenail about it.

Discarnated I remember the name from a compilation Steve Rowe once produce but don't remember the song.

Rampage were cool but I personally like Tyrus better and both bands became the best part of Hobbs Angel which was better than both.

Now I'm off to listen to Melbourne band CrimsonFire.

Yep. Shirty, the drummer from No Remorse joined Sanctum and the other guys formed Persecution.

Dude, that fucking rules. I like all the Sanctum stuff! You had (have?) some mean fucking pipes on you too.
Cheers man. I had only just joined the band when that single was recorded. I was 17 and had only played in a shitty covers band when they asked me to join and all of a sudden I was playing crazy gigs to big audiences in the city. Was pretty wild.

Legitimately impressed. On MA it says the band moved to the U.K. so I'm assuming that's when you moved and lived there for awhile, yes?
Yep, lived there for two years until my visa expired and I had to come back. We went there with a fresh four-song demo recorded just before we left that came out great and a record deal for an album with with Lethal Records (Miasma, Belial). We recorded at the first studio we found which ended up being a huge mistake because it turned out sounding like shit. We spent a bunch of time trying to fix it and it ended up worse (long story) and it got released anyway. We spent a bunch of time after that licking our wounds and trying to make the band better as small fish in a big pond. I switched to bass & vocals after we had to kick the bass player out and and we recorded a four-song demo just before my visa ran out that almost landed us a major label deal and promises that I'd be able to come back to record our first proper album with proper money and a new visa, but that all fell in a heap (another long story) and I ended up stuck back in Australia. The band continued with new members and a new style but never got that deal.

Some more good Aussie metal. My take on those.

Black Jack were a fun band and they are proof Aussies started pirate metal. :) Their demos (which were not all songs about pirates) pre-date anything Running Wild did about pirates by several years. The lyrics on that 5 Pieces O Eight EP are as cheesy as hell. I love the song about the car there is more cheese in that song than there is at the Bega factory!

Enticer were cool live in the 80's. I heard they reformed about 2010 but never heard anything they released if they did.

Betrayer was ok but not huge on the scene

Critical Mass' Unholy Wars album was popular where we were and we contacted them a heap of times to come to Melb for gigs and never got a response.

Psychrist were one of the other good things to come out of Canberra, I saw them a few times before the released their first album and they could get the venue moving. Never saw them after they released a full length album though.

Ion Drive were further evidence of how the Melbourne scene was buzzing along in the 80's. They weren't great from memory but there was a shitload of bands like them playing every other night somewhere so you could always get a fix of something that wasn't pop or top40.

Acheron should probably have gotten further than they did, one of the early death metal bands and they put on great shows but they did change them name and continue playing as far as I remember.

Bengal Tigers I only saw once live in their second incarnation but they seemed to have a pretty good following.

One day I'll find time to hunt around YT and look for some of the other bands we used to see and work with. No idea how much of the 80's stuff is out there but these two lists show someone's been getting some of the older stuff online.

Thing about bad times is, with hindsight you mostly just remember the good bits anyway. I can certainly say that's the case for myself at least.
Yeah that's probably the case for me as well now I guess, it was a crazy adventure that's for sure.

Some bands in there that I haven't thought about in a loooonnnnggg time.. Fester Fanatics, Captain Tripps, Hecatomb, Mass Confusion, fucking hell

Also would you be able to wrap those youtube links in spoiler tags? The page just errors out now on my phone and ipad

Gotta wonder why SIC decided to go with Screaming In Churches and not stay with the original Spastics Inducing Corruption. Although I do like the Screaming In Churches EP I think it's a bit long, I mean 8 songs in something like 15 minutes, talk about an album that drags on!

I'd forgotten about Frozen Doberman, I think they got themselves some decent airplay on JJJ back in the day

And Addictive were fucking awesome, those two albums of theirs are never far from my CD player.

Feed Her To The Sharks: Modern Melodic Metalcore.

Sounds great, I'd put them on the same pedestal as Parkway Drive...then push that pedestal over and bury them in a truck load of horse shit.
