I'd stick Painkiller into Nec's list as well.
Traditional Doom Metal:
Pentagram - Relentless
Pentagram - Day Of Reckoning
Pentagram - Be Forewarned
Saint Vitus - Saint Vitus
Saint Vitus - Hallow's Victim
Saint Vitus - Born Too Late
Trouble - Psalm 9
Trouble - The Skull
Revelation - Salvation's Answer
Revelation - Never Comes Silence
Revelation - ...Yet So Far
You've got to be fucking kidding me. Painkiller?
edit: On a side note. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think breaking everything down int sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-genres isn't necessary. Besides, I don't think any sub-genre that has come out in the last 10-15 years is worthy of being "essential" anyways.
All you need are as follows:
Black
Death
Doom
Electronic
Folk/Viking
Gothic
Heavy/Traditional
Orchestral/Symphonic
Power
Progressive
Speed/Thrash
Then bam! You've got a pretty kickass list.

I would separate Speed and Thrash.
I would separate Speed and Thrash.
Electronic Metal doesn't really exist, and if you meant Industrial Metal...it's not big enough really to warrant a section. But I guess it could be included if we thought of enough "classic" albums.
Sludge:
Acid Bath - Paegan Terrorism Tactics
Corrosion of Conformity - Deliverance
vihris ninja'd himself
Quite honestly, I would not consider it essential for me to listen to most of that.
