Hey there!

At least one thing I share with Symphony X is my love for classical Soundtracks, so I was wondering, are there more people here who like to listen to these, and do you have favourites, good suggestions or anything else regarding this topic?

My latest revelation in Scores definitely was the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Even when a lot of things in these films disturbed me quite a lot (I tend to read the book at least once in 2 years), I loved every single note of Howard Shores perfect composition.

So what can you recommend, despite of the "usual suspects" like John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith. Well, you can recommend them too, since they also are great.
Anyway, here we go...

"Imperial March" by John Williams defines how the "bad guy"`s theme should sound like, that melody is the manifestation of alle the Darthe`s themselves!
John is a complete genius, everything he does is pure gold...

I don't know much about movie soundtrack composers, but I can recommend that you check out some video game soundtracks. Final Fantasy VII's soundtrack is full of some of the most awesome music ever made, and I'm sure a lot of people will back me up on that. Nobuo Uematsuo is great on the Final Fantasy games, and the Castlevania series has some good music too.

My Top 8

A Clockwork Orange - Music by: Wendy Carlos, Beethoven and Rossini.

2-Rocky IV - Music by: Vince Dicola

3-Gladiator - Music by Hans Zimmer.

4-Batman - Music by Danny Elfman.

5-The Last of The Mohicans - Music by: Trevor Jones and Randy Edelman.

6- The Exorcist - Music by: Jack Nitzsche y Mike Oldfield.

7 - Inferno - Music by: Keith Emerson.

8- The Man in the Iron Mask -Music by: Nick Glennie-Smith.

The Ninth Gate - Wojciech Kilar

Batman Returns - Danny Elfman
Edward Scissorhands - Danny Elfman
Music For a Darkened Theatre 1 & 2 - Danny Elfman

Back to the Future Trilogy - Alan Silvestri

The Last Samurai - Hanz Zimmer

All excellent choices in no particular order

Absolutely,
The classical composers were the originators of rock. It is powerful and moving.

This is why bands like Rhapsody, Sym X, DT and S Gallery are so popular. If it is well crafted and blended with Rock, then it is a work of art.

We are a new prog label seeking unsigned bands. Check us out.

The best classical soundtracks are those by famous composers. Except Elfman and Williams. They're ok, too.

Another one I can recommend is Miklos Rosza's Ben Hur Score. Even if the main actor of this movie is horny for weapons in the hands of everyone, the music and the film remain fantastic.

Besides, if you have a bit of Bandwith and like the Lord of The Rings Soundtrack, check out my version of it, including a little dose of good ol metal:

Part I & Part II

My favourite soundtracks are from...

The Godfather Trilogy
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
The Man with No Name Trilogy
Braveheart
Romeo and Juliet
Harry Potter Series

Well These are not Classical Soundtracks but I like them Alot

The Matrix Trilogy - (most of it by Don Davis)
Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (don't know - > Yann Tiersen)
Requiem for a Dream (Clint Mansell and Kronos Quartet)
PI (same from Requiem for a Dream)
Traffic (Cliff Martinez)

I can't remember of any other in this moment.. but I know I have more heh

The Diablo II expansion soundtrack is heavily based on Wagner, so if you liked that, there's Der Ring des Nibelungen, etc.

I absolutely love Klaus Badelt. He helped out with the Gladiator soundtrack which is a great soundtrack. My favorite of his is The Time Machine soundtrack, simply breathtaking. He also did the music for Pirates of the Caribbean (also great but way too short), The Recruit, and K-19 Widowmaker.

i'd kinda wanna hear Adagio remake movement 3 of the moonlight sonata, i think it fits their style better. i know SX would definately do a great job with it, but theres something about adagio that it fits with better. ...and if anyone knows anyone from Adagio, make them play it...
