Classics Reborn

I might be bias because I like old school stuff and I was waiting for the album to come out. But just like when I brought Incubus' Serpent Temptation no one I knew had any idea about the band so I was determined to get it just because they wouldn't.

I was a bit shocked when people I knew didn't know Incubus was a real band before that useless bunch of twats hit the charts with the same name. Their second album wasn't as good as Serpent Temptation and their stuff as Opprobrium probably not as good either but ST was a great thrash album.

I was equally pissed when I heard some faggy band had stolen the name in the 90's :)

I know of a few Aussie bands that have had to change names over the years when they've toured overseas. But yeah it is surprising how many unique names there really are. However if you try to come up with a new name and you do a google search it's funny too see how many bands around the world have the same name. I used to work with a band name Valhalla and I knew it wasn't a unique name, even twenty five years ago, but to do a Google search on the number of bands that use that name and are making albums it's strange and makes you wonder what happens if two of them actually broken the scene at the same time.

Years ago I think that's why they ended up with Wrathchild and Wrathchild America too. Back in the 70's there as a pub band here that were hugely popular named the Angels but when they toured the US they had to change their name to Angel City. Their first three albums are still sold in the US as Angel City.

I think the answer is to make any new band a death metal band and make the logos unreadable so when someone asks what the name is you just make it up on the spot and if someone says there is already a band named that you just make up another name.

That's funny you should mention them, We were just talking about that here about a month ago. And then that I had no idea they changed their name to Souls At Zero in the 90's

Speaking of band names and things.
So anyone around here probably knows I'm not the biggest supporter of Metallica after the black album. But even they didn't deserve what I saw at the grocery store. A girl of maybe 12 wearing a pink baseball tee that had the princess from little mermaid movie on it and above the picture it said Princess in Metallica style letters. I can only imagine it was bought at hot topic lol...then again it might be in Lar's wardrobe.

Our first daughter had a Maiden and an AC/DC onesie for when she was first born :)

One of the Kardashian's copped flak from Sharon Osbourne and others recently because they released a range of shirts with metal band images on them and a picture of themselves overlaid. I don't know the Kardashian's enough to give a shit which one is which but whichever it was decided it was cool to be associated with metal despite probably never listening to the bands on the shirts. Not sure how they get away with them, I'd have thought the images were licensed, I know it's not that simple with a logo and in China they will print anything on anything but I would have thought copyrights and trademarks would have stopped someone like a Kardashian ripping off images.

They are lol it's all copyrighted and trademarked. This is what I meant by rich people doing stupid things. I'm sure they can be sued by any number of people if they really wanted.

I know there was a story last year about Metallica suing a cover band for copying their logo which turned out to be some media beat up lead by false legal letters that one of the websites fell for. To me copying a logo while still technically against copyright is not so bad, especially for a cover band, but copying it to sell t-shirt sucks. There is plenty of unlicensed stuff which flood the market, here the pricks even sell them out the front of the concert venues, but if it was my band I'd definitely sue a Kardaishan for putting their ugly faces over my band image.

Well one of those Blab stories mentioned that The Doors are filing against them. But I don't know how true it is. A cover band wouldn't really bother me, they're just trying to have some fun and make a buck.

Well in many ways a cover band is riding off a lot more than just the logo so yeah it's probably a bit extreme suing them. I think I remember Metal Injection getting hold of the letter from Metallica Management (Q prime I think) and it was a big pile of legal mumbo jumbo and threats for this band who'd only played in Canada, were not playing every week and little more than a bit of fun.Threats about using the logo on their banners and flyers and how much Metallica were going to sue them for. Metal Injection made the big "Metallica are pricks" comments and Q prime came out saying they'd never heard of the band, or had any issues with the way the bands logo was drawn and pointed out several reasons why the letter was fake. Metal Injection then claimed it wasn't their fault they fell for the fake because it was handed to them by an 'unnamed' reputable source.

Hahaha. I would say I hoped they learned something but I doubt that they did. Some things are too juicy to pass up if they can be first, even if they have to retract it later lol I think maybe Metallica went and visited that cover band or did something for them.

I think Metallica promised to visit but it wasn't on the cards at the time. Metallica handled it well from a PR point of view, even if it did turn out to be true and Q prime looked like dicks Metallica would have come out looking pretty good.

I thought I remembered some photo with them and the band but that could very well have been someone else.
Yeah even if it was the band which it wasn't they can always blame management lol

I think the biggest thing with Metallica is that we'd expect Lars to be a dick and pull such a stunt so when everyone involved says it wasn't him we believe them.
