Classics Reborn

I'm just going to campaign for a part 2 to every good album, especially given that I said a day or so ago I wouldn't want to see an RIP 2 :)

I think Nicko said he wasn't sure about continuing touring after he was 70 which he claimed gave them another two albums. I understand he's probably getting tired and a live show must take it out of all of them but it would be sad to see them retire.

Given Nicko's alcoholism I wouldn't have been surprised to see him retire years ago. But the same could be said for Bruce when he had that cancer thing a few years ago.

As much as seeing them go would be sad given their ages I'd rather see then retire on a high rather than have them go out like the Rolling Stones.

There has to be something said for constant touring though. Obviously you can't compare the music and singing directly but if you look at bands like Iron Maiden and even the Stones who have never given up compared to a lot of those 80's and 90's bands that are reforming, even some of them that have reunited several times over the years it's easy to see who the better performers are. Maiden are in their 60's and can still cut it on stage with a similar power to what they used to, bands like Poison and Def Leppard etc who might have once had a similar power no longer have it.

Because those bands didn't really believe! lol they were there just for the cash and chicks. Maybe Leppard had a soul once in the early 80's. Poison never had one.
I thought it was only Nicko was the only one in the 60's? At any rate older age doesn't mean what it once did, unless you really abused yourself or got some disease. I think now more than ever the saying of age is a state of mind rings true. To an extent anyway.

The 'chicks with dicks' metal scene did have the odd good song but there was a lot of talentless crap that was produced too.

Bruce is the only one who is not 60, but Steve, Adrian, Dave and Janick are only just there. I actually thought Nicko was older than 65, I thought the interview I read said he was going to rethink his drumming in two years at 70, but he's still go five years to get there. He's got at least 3 albums and 2 tours in him yet :) I think Nicko's comments about retiring weren't so much related to what he's been, alcohol obviously took it's toll, but to drum like he does for two hours a night would take it out of anyone even someone half his age if they aren't conditioned for it.

Hahaha I never heard it put as the chicks with dicks metal scene, although I consider it the hard rock scene.
A lot of cheesy songs but some of them had outstanding guitar players. The 90's scene was just as cheesy I thought only in
a different way. And not one of them had any great musical talent. By the way I do not include Alice In Chains in the Grunge or alternative scene lol

Yeah I couldn't do what Nicko does!

Chicks with dicks was what magazines (Metal Hammer, or Kerrang etc) used to call the LA scene back in the 80's and 90's when bands like Motley Crue, Poison, etc were busting through. There was all sort of comments like they couldn't play but they knew how to apply make up, they stole their daddy's guitars and mummy's make up.

I listened to a lot hard rock, I didn't really care that Motley Crue wore more make up that everyone I knew, I just liked the music. It was kind of like listening to KISS, the music was basically the same whether they wore make up or not, it's just their stage sow was more impressive with the make up.

I was never really and AIC fan, not sure why. I saw them when Suicidial toured with them here in 95(ish) but even live they didn't sell it to me.

I had a subscription to RIP for a few years other than that I stayed away from Circus and Kerrang, Maybe that was the difference.
RIP was a pretty decent magazine. Some of those bands get a bad rap. But some of those bands deserve the ridicule and more.
And then some of the bands sounded good until you saw them lol

AIC I've have seen some not so good performances but then there are some really great ones like the acoustic thing they did.
I think it depended on how high Layne was...or maybe wasn't

Back in the 80's and 90's there was no internet to keep up with things and while I remember half a dozen different mags that we could get down here they were imported and cost us three times as much as any other mag. It wasn't until about '91 we got a dedicated Aussie metal mag which only cost us $3. It covered all "metal" so it was pretty broad but it was our only choice. I can't complain I won a heap of competitions (and crappy prizes) from that magazine. But the stories were still pretty crappy and full of filler to make headlines.

AIC really didn't do great gigs here when the toured with ST, very few reviewers gave them a great wrap but I couldn't even get into their albums at the time either.

It was a joke, paying $10 or more for each mag (which is normal price now) was expensive so you never really connected to any one mag, just picked them up when they had something interesting in them. Thankfully though we had a lot of independent radio stations that put on metal shows and some of them kept the news following, the biggest annoyance is that very few were on before 10pm. We used to do a radio show on community radio from midnight to 2am on a Friday night, shitty hours but that's what we had to put up with 25 years ago. We also had quite lot of street press mags, the ones that looked like newspapers and were paid for by advertisers so they were free to pick up from music shops. They were broad in what they covered but they always covered some metal.

Wow, that's crazy expensive! ans then not even know if the magazine is any good? Horns man!:headbang:

Man how much easier it is today for a band with at least some intelligence to get music and put theirs out there huh?
We actually only had two real rock stations when I was growing up and one came from out of state and you could only get it
in certain parts of town lol Luckily I lived in a spot that had it coming in. They played hard rock and metal all day and then I think after eight they would play like Slayer and Metallica and broadcast concerts things like that. We only had a few places locally where small bands could play, But we had a lot of old brick warehouses that had been converted to band rooms.

When we were in the scene independent radio was the key to getting people to listen to your music, (and live gigs) because the press just didn't care. The downside was crappy times of radio shows.

The biggest problem with music today is that anyone can get heard. It's good to hear new bands and stuff but there are still lots and lots of shit bands out there who can get caught in the same net and sifting through them is difficult, wasn't that bad 25 years ago :)

I know a guy who's first reaction to Anthrax's King's album was to remix the first song and post it online to try and prove to the three people who read his crap that he could do a better job than Anthrax. Obviously 'better' is a personal opinion but it shows how easy it is for people to post crap and convince people they can make music

Hahaha it really is stunning how lame some people are lol. everyone is always complaining about a mix or yelling out bricked. I'm not sure half of them even know what that means. They probably do think they can do the job of a real producer on a $100 dollar program lol.

The thing I find annoying is that such people want to force their shit on you. Taste is subjective and they may well think their version is better but telling everyone else that it's better because you did it and then expecting them to agree with you really does make the person look stupid. They usually get all butt hurt when someone doesn't agree too.
