Classics Reborn

I do like a lot of power metal and I'll often use Youtube to listen to bands I find on metal-archives. I find myself going back to the originals more than new bands but sometimes I find an album that's worth picking up. I tend to get more lost in the music than I do in the lyrics and at the moment Theocracy is in that area. If I read the lyric sheet I might get turned off, but I can ignore that :)

I don't know if this guy is reborn or not but I still like Alice as much for who he is as what he is.

I find it very hard to like bands with dumb lyrics.( in my thrash anyway ) Probably why I only like a handful of bands.

Yeah I sometime I agree, there is plenty of bands that have dud songs because of poorly written lyrics, but I can listen to some songs and ignore the words like they instrumentals.

I go in and out with Cooper. The last one I bought was Brutal Planet. It's part him part, me as I can't really get into anything rock anymore.

Yeah I'm the same, I give all his new stuff a listen but don't always buy. I like the theatrics of Alice as much of the music but some songs just don't cut it.

I haven't checked but I believe the original band was only for the live shows.

I don't remember reading if he had plans to record with the original band or not. I don't even know if the live show that was on most sites a month or so back was even recorded.

Watching the live footage of Alice and his original band was nostalgic but that's about it for me. I like songs from his later career that the original band didn't do so to me hearing those would be more important than seeing the original band again. I'd probably go and see his old band reformed but I'd still want to hear songs off Trash and Brutal Planet etc.

My guess is they wouldn't try and that's what would make a one off reunion more value to fans.

Oh no I'm sure they wouldn't try either. It would have to be a one off. Maybe it's a bit of ignorance on my part but I never felt that his band was all that important to people. I've never heard their names mentioned really except maybe the drummer? At any rate I've not heard big cries for that line up to be back.

The thing is, its nostalgic. Fans want to see Welcome to my Nightmare on stage, whether they be fans that weren't around when it was released or were and forget it they want to see that on stage they don't want to see the WTMY band play Trash. It's like all the calls for Megadeth to reunite with Marty and Nick (before he died). Or the current calls for Rainbow to reform, or Deep Purple, or any of those bands, today's fans want to see the old music played live not the new music played by people who didn't write it.

I would have died for the reunion of the Rust line up lol, it's a complicated thing. I think a lot of things factor in. Players, songs, albums, where and what you were doing at a certain time you heard it. And of course the catalog. If the songs are only ok with certain line ups. That's gonna make a big difference I think. Personally I never minded seeing different players doing others material. I just depends on the player. Like I can't stand Drover. And the main reason was his butchering of the old solos...but also I don't like his solos.

But the thing is if the RIP line up could reform today would you want to see them play songs of Dystopia? I wouldn't, and I think that is the same thing with Alice's band reunion, people just want to see them play WTMN.

Well at first I think people will want Rust all the way through full tour ( I don't think Marty would do it ) because it is an iconic album, not just a song or two. But after that I would be fine with them playing songs off Dystopia because they are good songs and Marty and Nick both had/have a lot of energy and personality on stage and I think they would make the performance as exciting as if they were in the band at the time the song was written.

But Alice I think is a different story, they'd have to do a strictly classic set.

I saw the band on the RIP tour, still have the tour book and it's the only gig I ever saw a guy pulled out of the pit in a wheelchair, it was a great gig (although not the best) and if it were possible I'd probably see it again but I wouldn't care about seeing Marty and Nick doing Dystopia. Nick and Marty doing anything other than RIP would be the same as Alice's WTMN band doing Trash, or Gillan doing a full Black Sabbath show having only done one album.
