I wouldn't consider him part of the band if he didn't play on anything or anywhere either. I just like the idea that there is possibility. Gene sat in for so many people, in so many places, some for a short time some for a long time, while he might not have been officially a member of every band he played with his arse print is still in many bands. How he even remembers them all is beyond me, if it wasn't for being in lockdown I'd have forgotten where my arse was last week.

The rumours of who Dave asked to join over the years is massive. There was a site a few years ago (around '08-ish) that listed such rumours and stories of who was asked to join a band, who moved from band to band etc and the list of who Dave asked, or who requested an invite, was longer than pretty much any other metal band. Of course many couldn't be proven and weren't documented but it was cool to read through jsut for the sake of it.

I have never ever heard of Gene playing in Megadeth. That seems like something that would have been mentioned by Dave or Gene or anyone around. It's not like it's a secret of how many people and who they are that have been with them in the early days.

I don't expect to find it true but I'm not going to stop looking for stories to back it up.

There is only 2 albums (from memory) that Gene's done something on that I don't own or have copies....he better not release a box set some of that shit was hard to get!!

According to wiki there is 57 listings for Gene. Some are like Slayer's Show No Mercy where he is listed as backing vocals on one track, or Naphonia where he is guest drummer, so it wouldn't be 57 cds in the box but it would still be something like 35-40 actually band CD's not including demos. That's an expensive box

Just looking at the list and I'm missing or haven't heard, 1 soundtrack (I think it's only one track with other Dethklok members but not as the band), 4 albums, and now that I've heard Phantasm 0 demos.

I don't know. I'd imagine there are session musos who just work in studios who have probably done more but as far noted metal musos who get asked to play on albums I'd reckon he would definitely have to be up there with the most prolific.

Of course that could be wrong too, maybe he doesn't wait for requests, maybe he just storms into studios at random and demands to be on albums.

I love bootlegs and their inaccuracies. I came across a copy of the Maiden Japan Bootleg (not the 4 or 5 track EP) a while ago and track 5 on it is Another Life (Including Droom Solo). I can't wait to hear what a Droom solo is I don't think I've ever heard one before.

There was a thing back in 2018 where he made it look like he was just lobbing into someone's studio with some sticks in the hope he'd get to play but I don't ever remember him following it up. As much as I hate reality TV I'd watch a show with Gene wandering studio to studio banging on the door saying "Let me in to play drums!"

Well in case you are wondering a droom solo sounds a bit like a drum solo but at the start it sound like he's using hollow sticks, or made half inch plastic pipe. Maybe Clive Burr was a visionary drummer and didn't use normal sticks
