Classics Reborn

I know it's about 30 years ago but they really do look like kids. I think the big difference now is that Larz dresses like a hobo and Kirk really does look old so the change between new and old is dramatic.

They might be silver, rich old ladies have been using them for years instead of saying they go grey :)

LOL, I won't be surprised when they release official Metalliplugs.

Waiting for your own set are you? :)

I don't know the music of any of those bands!

Pretty much everything Ayreon has done is epic, it may not all be metal and often it's listed as Prog Metal but the guy and the musos he chooses are some of the best at what they do.

http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/gene-simmons-if-i-could-i-would-trademark-the-air-you-breathe/

This is why Gene is what he is. Read any article about Gene and it's all confidence in himself. He doesn't give a crap that people don't like what he does, he doesn't give a crap that someone thinks he's a tool for his ideas he does them and when they pay off they pay off, when they don't it doesn't get him down he just finds something else to do. There is a lot of haters out there but I guarantee none of them have the confidence Gene does to be Gene. Many people wont agree but I think that same confidence is what made KISS what they are, a band that after 40 years is still relevant and able to sell out any arena they put themselves in. Gene worked out a long time ago that he loved money and to get that money he had to give the fans what they wanted, he didn't give a shit if someone told him school lunch boxes where a crappy item to put your face on he did it, because the fans paid for it.

Confidence or supreme narcissism lol
Gene can say whatever he wants nothing that comes out of his mouth surprises me.
I don't exactly disagree but I'm not sure of KISS as relevant. They are there for people to have a good time and that's pretty much it They say it themselves it's about the show. That doesn't really go out of style it's true. But at the same time they've been spinning the same recored for decades. They aren't exactly breaking musical ground or any kind of social statement you know?

Oh I'm dead sure it's narcissism but he didn't get that way without being confident in himself.
Rolling Stones aren't breaking new ground, AC/DC aren't breaking new ground, Metallica aren't breaking new ground. Kiss like all three of them could announce a world tour tomorrow and there would be very few venues they play that aren't sold out, they can also do it without releasing new material. If they weren't able to stay relevant to today's market they wouldn't be able to do that, people would forget who they were. All four of those bands (and there is no doubt others) gain masses of new fans every year if that's not remaining relevant then I'm not sure any band is relevant.

I don't know it might be pure narcissism.

I don't think the Rolling Stones or AC/DC are relevant either. I don't think Relevant and popular are necessarily the something.
Metallica at least has some thoughtful lyrics with a commentary on whats going on today.
As for Kiss, a circus act isn't really relevant to anything but that doesn't mean it isn't fun and will bring people in in droves. I don't think Kiss is relevant but I also don't think they are trying to be. They are a party band good time band. There's nothing wrong with that.

But really relevant probably is different from person to person.

Given how many times he's put his face on something then sold it to someone there is definitely a large dose narcissism but I'd love to have his business mind. And to hear him talk about the early days before KISS proves he had a confidence in himself that very few people have, I doubt he's lost that.

Relevance does change a lot, I couldn't care less about a band writing songs about a dickhead movie stars or politicians (unless it's done comically even then it's hit and miss) and the problem is that while they are relevant when they are written they loose relevance. Look at Maiden's stance against Maggie Thatcher, half their fans today don't even know who she is but the song had relevance at the time. Yet a song like Master of Puppets to me is as relevant today as it was when it was released because I know too many people that chose that path for their lives. But when it comes to relevance of a band I don't just judge by their lyrics I also judge by how relevant they are on the world stage, are they forgotten if they are out of the media spotlight for more than five minutes, do people still flock to everything they do. Bands like the Stones, AC/DC, Metallica, KISS and probably others fit that bill.

Yeah I guess I define relevant different. And that's actually one of the reasons I like thrash so much. So many albums are just as current today as they were when being written. Pissed off never goes out of style!

For me it all depends on the topic. Something like Master of Puppets is relevant because drugs never really go out of fashion. Songs about global warming are always relevant but not often that good. Even a song like Holy Wars only remains partially relevant today depending on how one reads the lyrics. Where as some of the songs of the last year or so about Trump are really only relevant to American's.

None of it really takes away the relevance of any of them but they just aren't all relevant to every listener.

Love all this old footage of bands that is popping up. I sometimes wonder where it's all been sitting, then remember the archives we used to have at the youth group from what we used to record.
