Classics Reborn

It was a darn good show. Probably about 1500 people, dingy as shit club where your feet stick to the carpet. MA were really in form in those days and they played a good solid set. Because of where the venue was there was no noise restrictions so four bands played and the show went to about 2am. The only down side of the gig was that we didn't get to see the band afterwards. In those days at that venue the bands used to come out after the set but for some reason MA didn't come out that night.

In this country it's easier to catch them at the small venues. Catching a band like Metallica or such that plays a 20,000 seat venue is near impossible. But in a smaller venue (less than 5000ish) which a lot of heavier bands now play here they nearly always come out. It's partly a logistical thing but in most cases I think it also has a lot to do with the bands preferring to mix with smaller audiences and those sort of venues pretty much just turn into bars/pubs after the show.

I've seen some big bands do some big venues but the heaviest band I saw do anything bigger than 10,000 seat is Metallica. Any other heavy band I've seen has been in venues from about 2000 capacity to 5000 capacity. Even if the band doesn't come out I really like the smaller gigs. I'm fucked if I know how people enjoy some of those outdoor festivals in Europe where they get 150K people. I saw GNR here in 93 and there was 80K and it was horrendous.

29 years since Forbidden's Forbidden Evil came out. Damn I loved that album when it was released.

23 years since Testament's Low. Not as much of a fan when it was released but still a good album.

I was looking at Metal Encyclopaedia yesterday and it appears over the next few months there is a number of big bands scheduled for re-releasing old material, either as remasters, new covers, or just updating them. Metallica, Testament, Sodom all have old releases this month alone.

I only recently got back into Forbidden, I forgot they even existed for years but I'm glad I did. It's like Master Of Puppets, I've always known it was a classic, I know the words to the songs and I can pick just about any song off the album but since the kids have been badgering me for something new in the car I decided to put MOP in and I just got back from a drive listening to it. Kind of wondering why I haven't listened to it more over the last 10 years now.

I never was into them much, although when I do here them It's usually better than I thought it would be. I checked some of that out. And I hope those drums are the kind Stet will do in Metal Church., they are more balls out than the last MC album.

I've always liked the idea of WASP, Blackie the evil and Chris the drunken dickhead. I've listened and bought some of their recent albums but nothing has matched Idol. There has been some good songs just not full albums. But their older stuff is still classic stuff.

Chris Holmes is a crack up these days, I cannot take the guy seriously. His last two albums were crap and his "I am the best in the world" attitude is hilarious but with lyrics like "I'm in a decibel shower" and albums titles Shitting Bricks how can you not laugh at the guy. There was some good riffs on the two albums but not enough to make it listenable for anything other than shit and giggles.

Bravewords was not the only one. When I first saw it on Facebook every second report said his death was unconfirmed but looking at the time stamps they were all being released at the same time. It was like they were taking turns, one reports death, the other reports unconfirmed, then another for death.

He's been confirmed to be in hospital but it looks to me that he was another victim of this "fast pace news cycle" media outlets keep reporting happens to excuse them when they give false reports.

Of course not but it's the way things go. Report on the slimmest of stories in the hope you're website gets the news out three seconds before rivals then apologise if the news is proven wrong. Gone are the days of actually confirming a big story before it hits the airwaves.

TMZ have got hold of and released the 911 call to get paramedics there. They have gone from claiming the guy is dead to "look we have the call that set everything off" it's ridiculous but it's the way the news works now. The worst thing is that there is no fall back on these outlets so they continually do it. Sure they release an apology but there is no weight to it and it's only done for show.

Apparently what wasn't confirmed and blasted by the daughter has been now confirmed according to his own website.
