Classics Reborn

I couldn't remember whether I posted the last one of these in classics reborn or just thrash news but hey it's the 80's so it's classics!

So in today's 80's thrash find (and don't expect these every day :p ) is the band Intruder. I'd seen these guys logo before but did not remember paying them any attention. They started out as Transgressor, then changed to Intruder and after the first album signed to Metal Blade but it didn't seem to take them anywhere. They are apparently technical thrash/speed metal and many compared them to Anthrax in the day. I can hear some Anthrax in the following videos but I think they also have their own style. There's some great riffing throughout, some cool solos and some fast drumming but I think the drumming is recorded too low, (although that could be the YT reproduction).

Apparently these guys did reform and are currently listed as being together but the rhythm guitarist died last year and they don't seem to have done anything much in these reformed years anyway. I have read that their first album has been re-released, whether that means the two following which were released under Metal Blade will also get re-released who knows, they might even be available as back catalogue items, I haven't looked. Anyway here's what YT offered me. (hidden in spoiler tags so as not to slow page down)

First Album: Live To Die 1987 (includes bonus tracks from Trangressor)

Second Album: A Higher Form Of Killing 1989

Escape From Pain EP 1990

Third Album: Psycho Savant 1991

Nice find!

Yeah, Intruder isn't too bad. I'm not going jump into buying (if I can get it) this stuff before I've listened to all that I've short listed but I think Intruder might be on the list when the time comes.

Good day in the history of metal
39 years since The Number Of The Beast

So I might be late to the party with this album (it was released in '86) but I'd never heard of it, possibly because I never really seeked out things by any of the individuals in the group. Anyway as far as 80's speed/power/heavy/supergroups (were supergroups a thing in the 80's?) go this is not real bad.

MARS Project: Driver.
MARS is Tony MacApline, Tommy Aldridge, Rob Rock and Rudy Sarzo. Apparently they didn't really work as a group but this album is not bad for an 80's band of egos. (To be fair to Rob Rock I don't know if he had/has an ego I don't know who he is). There's some speedy riffs, others less speedy, the vocals are all 80's and the production does seem like the producer tried to get the most from the band. They do look a bit hair metal, which given who some of these guys played with in the 80's is not surprising, but the music isn't hair metal it's probably a lot closer to trad metal, but as usual I suck with genres so take that with a grain of salt.

Well MacAlpine is awesome. I only know him from his solo albums though. I know Aldridge is good. Rudy, eh. Don't know the singer at all.

I really don't know that much of what MacAlpine has done. I've seen his name on things, I've heard some songs but never really followed his career. Same goes for Tommy Aldridge, although he gets free credit because he managed to share a stage with Malmsteen's egos. :) After hearing MARS I might have to look into more of Tony MacApline though.

It's fucking bullshit. The medical industry in this country is a disgrace. Thank's republicans!

Well I wasn't going to say that because I don't understand the US system that well, but I do know that in this country whether he had overpriced medical insurance or not the public system would have seen him looked after. There is no doubt money buys help, it's not always better help but it can be quicker. However the higher taxes and levies we pay does give us a health care system that helps all, no matter who they are or what they did to cause their illness.

It's a sad infuriating situation. One small group can really hold a country back. All they care about is making money for their corporate buddies. They say they are for smaller government but really all that means is they want businesses to have no regulations.
That times has passed. We've seen what happens when business can do whatever they want.
Their dads and grandfathers had it made. Sorry the party should be over for them.

Yeah we have several big corporates doing the same thing. Murdoch Media gets a lot of the blame but realistically they are just a media company, they can have an influence on the way people think but they aren't responsible, especially not in a two party preferred system where they donate shitloads of money to both sides. We were lucky to have the health system we have set up decades ago because there is no way we'd get it set up in the current climate, neither political party has the balls or the power to make the sort of change it would require. Of course one side gets blamed a lot for cutting the health sector, but in reality both sides do it when the politicians want a pay rise. It may not be perfect but at least it's something.

It's a HUGE list. I guess the idea of live streaming makes it a lot more enticing to some who might not be able to make an actual concert. And I agree it's great to see so much support and love for the guy.
