Classics Reborn

Cool that some other stuff is going to be getting played.

I had to laugh at part of this write-up.

"Originally released in 1990, "Spiritual Healing" marked a new turn in the DEATH discography, one which ushered in cleaner production, a new level of boundary pushing musicianship and songwriting skills that were previously unimaginable from a metal band."

Lol. Huh?. Previously unimaginable? If they were talking about Human or later I could see it. But not before that. We had Slayer for the drums and Skolnick for guitar for years before that.

I love all these things in the world that are unimaginable and impossible, yet some how still happen :)

I also find it funny how the general consensus with metal heads seems to be that Chuck was a legend, an innovator, and great at what he did, but at the same time people get so divided about what he released. Some fans seem to hate one album while loving another, they seem to think Chuck took the wrong path here, or there. But the thing that really gets me is that most seem to consider him an innovator but can't agree why he is one, or what album gives him the title.

Crazy right?!

Yeah you're right it is like that. Death has a pretty divided fan-base.
As someone who came into Death fairly late (I knew a few songs) but was around back in the day, I'd say Chuck was an innovator/legend twice over. I got the whole discography at once and just saturated myself in it.
Initially he had a big hand in creating Death Metal even though Death was not the first band. But he took it in his own direction and people copied that blueprint. And then he reinvented his band again and the genre with Human and beyond and took it to a whole new level. And the whole scene again pretty much followed.
And he did it at a pretty young age and left quite a few albums in a short time.
If I may add that unlike Mustaine. Chuck was getting better and better as a musician.
I wish Testament would do a Death cover.

I thought Symbolic was that Canadian Death tribute band?

The YT doco I posted ages ago on Chuck showed pretty much what you said he was an innovator but he reinvented the band and was constantly reinventing himself. The difference between the albums was evidence of that reinventing but he was also doing it with his life. His rules about touring, which then manifested into his dislike for touring globally which helped bring the downfall between labels, to eventually realising he had to tour globally but having disagreements with band members about how it should be done. There was a lot of things he had to change about himself on a day to day basis because what he thought, or wanted to be normal, wasn't always the case. His fans are really just taking that to the extreme and dividing themselves by albums. :)

The only tribute band I know of was Gruesome but even they have moved on from just Death worship to writing their own stuff.

I wonder what song Testament would cover.

I think they cover a whole album! I'd love to know what Chuck and Chuck talked about when they met at the hospital.

I think I've uploaded them before. They had a dvd of a show years ago with a bunch of special guests.
they are..were? good. I'll see if I can find the show.

Maybe Chuck S told Chuck B to fuck off and leave his songs alone, that's why Testament haven't done a cover :)
