Classics Reborn

I've got it on LP but I still prefer Seasons or Reign over South Of Heaven.

I saw a thing the other day saying that Best Buy over there is not selling CD's and DVD's any more. Over here it's Kmart, they've pulled out of all entertainment.

Yeah it kind sucks, everything has to come from Amazon basically. It's weird in the town I grew up in and just moved from Dvd's have been pretty much gone for a few years, it's all or mostly blue ray. But where I am now I see huge selections of DVD's. It's like going back in time lol

We've still got three main chain shops that are scattered in shopping centres around the place and we have some independent shops in the cities so we do still have options. Not sure what Target's stance is here yet, not that they have much to begin with, but Amazon has fucked themselves over for this country. Amazon US wont ship to Aust because they want us to pay more and buy through Amazon Oz. We can still use a US drop shipper which many of us use if the shipper is UPS (UPS charge a shit load to deliver here), but it's annoying and adds extra time to the delivery.

One of our chain stores sells a lot of laptops and iPods as well as CDs and DVD's but it's one of the few retail chains that are actually making massive profits. They claim it's not off music sales but at this stage they aren't planing to dump them.

JB Hifi is the biggest in the country with more than 300 shops, the next biggest only has 150.

It's a chain that rose to what it is by selling cheaper music and entertainment than any other shop. But in the last five years or so they've moved into selling boxed shit. Pre-made desktops in set configurations, big screen tv's, theatre packages, anything that pretty much sells itself and doesn't require much knowledge to operate. Their marketing was brilliantly done, they advertised themselves as the cheapest, even if it was only $10, and they delivered on their promise. 10 years on they start increasing their prices but people have been force fed the "cheapest" line for so long they just automatically think it's still true.

Nothing around here either!I went to Newbury’s yesterday and picked up the new live Fates Warning And Overkill’s live Overhausen. The place is literally geared towards wiggers and hipsters! On the way home I also picked up a cheap Sony Blu-ray player in order to even watch the Overkill show,I really don’t like how most all these new players are strictly HDMI for the audio as well I miss the old analog separate input for the simple hook up to the amplifier.I guess I have to do the coaxial to HDMI in cableso_O

You're beating me, I don't even own a BluRay :) DVD Audio and video straight in and out of the amp for me

The things that annoys me about our shops is even though they are a chain they are independently owned and therefore they order there own stock. My local has a section of maybe 2-300 metal CD's but the same store 2 hours away has a metal section of about 1500 CD's.

Lol, it really is geared towards hipsters and wiggers now lol. I was in there a couple months ago and they had this god awful shit blaring from the speakers and all the employees looking really hip standing around talking to each other about hip things not even acknowledging me. So I walked up to the counter with my cd's laughing and told them their music was fucking lame and kept laughing while staring at them. Then I was on my way.

I just wish they'd make the hdmi cords longer! Did you watch the show yet? How is the Fates show?

HDMI cords have been a joke for years. Not sure what it's like over there but for the last 15 years we've had a shit load of unscrupulous shops trying to convince buyers that digital was the only way and that the only way to get the best quality was with gold plated leads. Every big retailer here tried to convince the consumer that $100 (and higher) gold plated leads were the only way to enjoy HiDef images and sound. Audiophiles are a weird breed in themselves but to have some numpty sales droid convince them that leads with gold plating were actually worth $100 is sad. But was was even sadder was that some of the shops were buying the leads from the same wholesaler I was and I was paying less than $10 for the 1 metre leads and less than $15 for the 2 metre leads. It's changed a bit now and some people have realised the gold plated leads are the same leads as the cheaper leads but there is still some people out there convinced they are getting a bargain because their leads are $100 and gold plated.

I'd probably get a PS3 or 4 if I spent more time in the lounge with the big TV but until that happens I'll run BluRay free :)

Not that I've been to all 300 JB Hifi stores but I reckon I know 2 that do have metal collections of around 1500, but most I've been to and it's the kind of shop I see and I have to visit no matter where I am, would average about 2-300. In some of the bigger JB Hifi's they probably have up to 10,000 LPs and CDs for all genres. There is two metal shops in the city that I know of that don't even have stock as high as some of the JB Hifi stores, but they will order in just about anything.
