Does anyone have any advice on how to make my guitars sound clearer in the mix and really pop out?

Heres a sample clip I have. Theres just something about the guitars that bother me.

They sound a bit hollow, plus they're out of context since there's no bass guitar and the drums are about 10dB (random number pulled out o my ass) too quiet.

I don't like boosting guitars at all really, takes away the character for me.

I suggest finding the nasty, nasty fizz that is around 3-4khz. I also take out some around 300-600, depending on where your bass is sitting. Then I take some out around 150-200 for snare.

Hope I've helped.

I cannot listen to the clip, but if you are sounding a bit hollow, try the Ferric TDS to increase dynamics and saturation. Saturation really gives a nice thick sound to the guitars.

Yea I need to add bass, but I'm waiting to get a real one cause I hate the sound of a programmed bass. I've also been meaning to get my hands on a saturator plug-in. I didn't want to do a ton of eq'ing cause I've heard if you have to do too much then you might as well redo the tone at its source. I've been pulling a little bit from 250 and from 8k tho I'll try and post a new mix soon.

Yea it probably is bad at the source. I just got a 57, so these are my first attempts using a mic. I recorded this from my 7 string razorback with emg 707s into a maxon od808 into my peavey 6505 into my marshall 1960a cab with 75w celestions into the 57 then into my mbox and into pro-tools.

I do also have a krank cab with the standard eminence speakers in it. I haven't tried to mic that one yet do you think it'd be better than using the 75 watt speakers in the marshall? And no I haven't even heard of zombass before.

What are your settings on the 6505?

Also, what processing is done on that track we heard? I find it hard to believe that is just a straight mic capture. We could help better if we heard the raw captured guitars.

My settings on the 6505 were into the high input then lead channel the pre gain was set to 2, low at 3, mids at 7, treble at 5, post gain was really low at like 1, the resonance and. Presence were both at 7 I believe. My maxon settings were balance and tone all the way up and drive all the way down. I used some compression on the guitars I can try and post a raw clip soon I just haven't been at a computer in a couple days.
