Clipping Converters

Clipping works for some stuff, but be REALLY careful on how far you're pushing things... I recommend excellent monitoring for clipping stuff. Love my Lavry Blue ADDA for that.

yeah....
just double check and i did slightly overcook it...
(the Vus on the focusrite were bending) and the overload was flashing but it sounded good!
But still!!
Waaaaay better than an L3, and a shit ton more transparent!
What do you use gomez for the push back into the converter? Pre? Comp? Both?

My chain is: Computer out --> Lavry Blue DA --> Manley Massive Passive EQ --> SSL 4000G comp -->Cranesong STC8 Comp --> Lavry AD -- computer in --> then I use the Oxford limiter or the L2 but to set the ceiling a - 0.3dB exclusively. I like doing all my stuff outside the box, not because I'm anti-plugs, I just like it.

really sorry, to answer your question, I use a bit of all them, sometimes just the stc8... it varies!

Thanks dude. there will be a Cranesong IBIS and new monitors sometime early next year as well.
I'm not very good at promoting myself, but lets do it! I got very competitive rates, can do Online or you're welcome to attend to the session as well. I do "testers" as well if you got an album ready for mastering, if you don't like it, no problem. I charge a one off fee, no charges for post tweaking. I only heard the API and ITB ones, but the external clipping seems to keep the drums intact a lot more. The mix sounds noticably less closed/compressed and more open and punchy from what I can tell in my brief listen. Nice comparison! Thanks.
PS: Are you sure your ITB chain is done right? I can't imagine it brutalizing the mix so much, but then again we are dealing with plug-ins....
Also, do you think this would work with my RME converters in the Multiface? You clipped a 002 and the end result was noticably better... can't wait to give it a shot.

Yeah, good call Abyss - if nothing else, you're not committed to anything with GClip, so you can adjust if you find it's clip-city. Now to do this, you have to run it out to something that will provide a gain boost, then run it back in purposely peaking the inputs, right?

Yep. I have to say I've got a mini boner over the idea of trying this with my next master. The GSSL won't be ready for a while, but all the same you can probably just do a loopback and use a plug-in to gain boost in software to clip the converters on the way in.
