first man, you need some nice tom samples
and the kind of compression i think your doing is incorrect for the application of toms.

I'm using Stillwell Audio's Event Horizon. I have the Slate samples, I've been trying to work in the Maple Toms.

then your good on the concept of good samples i guess
you just need some good compression skills
ganks put up some killer preset information
just toy around with what you got
and post up your drum tracks so we can hear it as an mp3

It sounds like there's a fair amount of OHs/room in those toms. That plus samples.. its not a hard sound to get. Getting toms sounding real is much harder to do.

well, how i do it, is i actually do a blending technique by triggering the toms 100% but have a the room mic a little bit kranked in the mix to the point where you just hear enough of the resonating toms
and then compress the samples in a bus, and on that bus, sidechain compress the room mics along with the snare and kick

i did try toms at 100% but it resonates too much
so, i used a strong compression setting
and infront of that
i gated the affected toms a little bit
and i automated the gate plug so it wont effect single tom hits
