COB Interviews

Mixing was completed nov-oct. The band has listened to it so much they've not listened much lately, and they've even "forgotten about the release."
Obviously they can't know how painful it is to wait.
Something I didn't like about the women interviewing. You could hear they're not fans of COB. Another situation Henkka managed to squeeze thru.
 
Yeah because the band has so much impact on the release date and they want you to wait, just to annoy you.
 
Alexi suffers from insomnia so he has to drink every night till he passes out cos he never sleeps, lol. Old:

They should just use sleeping pills.
Alcohol is going to be their death, and it better be as late as possible.
And no, I'm not one of those "OMG drinking is so bad, never do it!!" But there is a line that you can cross

oh well..

edit: actually, no. Sleeping pills in combination with alcohol the night before (because of a gig) isn't the best solution. Never mind this post then..
 
I kinda understand them because they're now rockstars living their life on a full and probably unsure if they will ever make another album. They have a reason for party everyday. Of course you die younger too.

This video's like two years old and we already know that they're calming down when it comes to the booze.

Dieser Tage servieren die Finnen Children Of Bodom ihren siebten Longplayer. Drummer und neben Bandleader Alexi Laiho einziges verbliebenes Gründungsmitglied Jaska Raatikainen beantwortete exklusiv unsere Fragen zum neuen Werk.

EMP: Gratulation zu einer weiteren Knaller-CD. Beim Vorgänger "Blooddrunk hattet ihr beinahe für jedes Instrument einen eigenen Produzenten. Dieses Mal war es nur einer: Matt Hyde. Wieso habt ihr euch für ihn entschieden?
JR: Unser US-Management hatte ihn vorgeschlagen, weil wir einen dynamischeren, vielleicht sogar moderneren Sound suchten. Bis dahin hatten wir Matt noch nie getroffen, kannten aber natürlich seine Arbeiten mit Slayer, Monster Magnet etc. Als der Kontakt dann stand, hatten wir gleich ein sehr gutes Gefühl. Sowohl was das Zwischenmenschliche als auch was seine Ideen für unsere Zusammenarbeit anging.

EMP: War Hyde denn bereits während des Songwritings dabei?
JR: Er besuchte uns etwa einen Monat bevor wir ins Studio gingen erstmals in Finnland. Matt kam also erst recht spät dazu, als die Kompositionen bereits standen und die Songauswahl getroffen war. Er hat uns aber noch einige wertvolle Anregungen für den Aufbau und die Struktur der Lieder geben können.

EMP: Welcher der neuen Songs war denn der erste bzw. der letzte, den ihr für das Album geschrieben habt?
JR: &#8218;Cry of the nihilist&#8216; war der erste Song und &#8218;Northpole throwdown&#8216; der letzte. Den haben wir dann auch gewählt, um die CD abzuschließen.

EMP: Wie entsteht denn überhaupt ein typischer COB-Song?
JR: Alexi hat in der Regel ein paar Riff-Ideen, an denen wir dann im Proberaum gemeinsam feilen. Manchmal ist das Stück aber auch schon so gut wie fertig, wenn er es uns zeigt. Dann hat er meist sehr definitive Vorstellungen darüber, wie die Drums oder die Keyboards klingen sollten. Die Aufgabe des Restes von uns ist es dann, diese Vision möglichst originalgetreu zu realisieren.

EMP: Immer wieder heißt es, dieses Album könnte COB in den Mainstream katapultieren. Wäret ihr dazu bereit?
JR: Ja, definitiv. Wohl jeder Musiker wünscht sich mit seiner Arbeit breiten Anklang zu finden. Wobei es ein großer Unterschied ist, wie man dorthin gelangt. Es gibt genügend Beispiele, die zeigen, dass man Millionen von Platten absetzen und sich dennoch selbst treu bleiben kann. Ich denke, dass wir von uns sagen können, so eine Band zu sein. Wir arbeiten hart für den Erfolg, verbiegen uns aber nicht für ihn.

EMP: Wie sehen eure Tourpläne aus? Wann können wir euch hierzulande erwarten? Und wo plant ihr sonst noch aufzutreten, vielleicht an Orten wo ihr noch nicht gespielt habt?
JR: Unsere zweimonatige Europa-Reise startet Anfang März. Schon am Ende des Monats werden wir in Deutschland sein. Wie es momentan aussieht, werden wir zum ersten Mal Konzerte in Südost-Asien bestreiten &#8211; was ich unglaublich spannend finden würde.

EMP: Ihr seid bekannt für eure originellen Coverversionen von Klassikern anderer Genres. Gibt es einen Künstler, von dem du einen eurer Songs gesungen hören möchtest?
JR: Ja, Las Vegas-Entertainer Pat Boone, der &#8218;Sixpounder&#8216; trällert. Das wäre geil, hahaa&#8230;

Something about the New Album:

Viel wurde im Vorfeld über das siebte Studiowerk geschrieben: es sei kommerziell, Children Of Bodom wollten hiermit Mainstream-Stars werden und die Vorabsingle klänge nach Pop. All dies stellt sich nun als Quatsch heraus. Sicher, das Coveralbum "Skeletons in the closet" sowie die Tour mit Black Label Society haben dafür gesorgt, dass man neue Publikumsschichten anspricht. Auch ist "Was it worth it?" ein knackig-direkter Vorgeschmack und der von Slayer- bzw. Monster Magnet-Producer Matt Hyde gefahrene Sound kommt sehr hochwertig daher. Von einer nennenswerten Modifikation des COB-Stils, bzw. gar einer Anbiederung an Charthörer-Gewohnheiten, kann aber niemals die Rede sein. Dies zu beweisen braucht es eigentlich nur den bulligen Eröffnungstracks "Not my funeral" und "Shovel knockout" &#8211; zwei der heaviesten (und besten!) Songs, die die Finnen je auf CD gebracht haben. Hammer-Riffs, fantastische, atmosphärische Keyboards plus brillante Soli im Höllentempo. Und so geht es weiter bis zum abschließenden Drei-Minuten-Brecher "Northpole throwdown". Einfach geil und zu 100% authentisch. (Oliver Kube / 06.01.2011)

Danke schön but after studying only 2 years german ages ago, I don't really understand the whole thing so translation would be much appreciated.

I finally found a new interview, but it seems the interviewers keep googling out and COPY PASTING each others' questions! New interview, and exactly the same content. I'm getting truly impatient, I can't wait. How hard can it be to dig somekind of information on how the album sounds like and what's new about it compared to past albums etc. They should ask them to "describe it" and not be satisfied with the empty answers. Six weeks guys, six weeks and we finally get the answers these people fail to deliver. -.-

You have Janne in there and Alexi, why not ask what kind of new keyboard experiments you tried, since they affect the atmosphere essentially, what kind of vibes the songs have, which songs are most aggressive, how much melody is there vs riffs, can you see trees and lakes when listening to it, what have you done different considering the negative response to the last two albums...
