comments, questions and tips about ultimatemetal upgrade

i agree on the reputation feature: i really couldn't care less.
i disagree on the fact that it's ugly, and it's not slow either, possibly less than before.
it doesn't take me to the top of the page after i posted
and i didn't see the edit line, i thought it just disappeared. anyway i think all of this can be changed at will once the trial period is over, so just let your voice be heard and i'm sure it's gonna be alright.

@wazoo: rebellion? ok. what now? we stop posting? you first. :p

Erm....
I am just the motivating/pushing factor
I run around in circles, screaming with my arms stretched.

"WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH"

No, really, I don't like it. :( I can't get my old avatar back either. Too much options everywhere, which I don't need.. And no NP-option.. And the colours are too cold. :(
Really.

well, i'm not here to motivate people to like the new layout (i'm not much fazed by it either one way or the other), but most of what you said it's just not true.

- you can have your old avatar back. just follow the guidelines i wrote above. if it needs resizing, i'll resize it for you, ok?

- the np option will be up again in a couple of days. sheesh, can't you live a few hours without? :p

- the colours to this board are the same as before, except for the background. but niklas and i were thinking about perhaps changing the theme anyway, so if it stays this way it's not going to stay long i guess.

I am really confused  (<----aaaaaargh!!) but nothing bad to say except for the smilies and the "blocky" thing...it's like more difficult to read

some of the smilies are already back. no :s though.
the blocks make it look blurry and all the new options just crowd your basic page a bit too much. it could really use some improvements, but some features just take a while getting used to, i guess.

Yeah i miss it :( i miss the old :p and the old ;) too...

a)I want all the old smilies back.
b)When you quote smt, the message is quoted in italics and the "X posted this:" think appears in normal letters. I liked it the other way around, as it was before.
c)The date and time smt was posted appears inbetween the posts -> rather confusing.
d)I miss the Online/Offline indication of each user as it was before.

Edit: What are the "Hybrid" and "Threaded" options? Neither of them seems to work for me.
Oh, and the option of saving the private messages in a file in your pc is sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

i hadn't noticed that one, sounds cool.

a) there's only a few of them missing now, right?

b) guess we'll get used to that one

c) yeah. everything happening between posts now is rather confusing

d) same here. the new options for checking online users are cool, but the highlighted "online" just below the nickname on each post was more immediate.

- linear: all posts in a thread shown from #1 to the last in posting order.

- threaded: all posts in a thread shown as a tree starting from the first and then branching according to who replied to whom in the thread. a bit like this:

- i love my belly-button posted by rahvin, 22-03-03 15:45 cet
- you can't expect people to... posted by |ngenius, 22-03-03 16:01 cet
- i sure can, mister! in fact... posted by rahvin, 22-03-03 16:12 cet
- i think i'm gonna puke posted by RealHazard, 22-03-03 16:04
this means |ngenius replied to my first post and then i replied to him, but realhazard again replied to my first post in the thread. of course it also means i love my belly button. do you want to see my belly button now? and you have to click on each message to read it. this structure was the one the old dt forum used to have, and admittedly it had some advantages, i.e., it was clearer whom and what you were addressing, even without quotes and @'s.

- hybrid: both structures are shown, the threaded one at the top and then all messages in your standard linear way.

in case some of you look at the board through a keyhole with the key still inside: the bar to the top of the page with the old links to a number of things is back, and gone are the buttons in the upper right of the main forum screen. so, i guess jumping to users' profiles and stuff is faster again.

i have no experience with the old board since i just browsed it for a week, but it seems to me that this new one has a different refreshing technique. i'm a netscape 6+ user and on the old board i used to load (or reload) a page and the page would appear in a single moment. now if i load or reload the first lines appear, then the subsequent ones etc., with a general slowdown. anyone else noticed this or is it my computer?

i have heard it mentioned elsewhere that it might be possible that the new software "pre-loads" the page before displaying it, while the older didn't bother with this routine and started showing the page at once. i've seen a couple of script bug reports too.
i really hope this gets fixed soon, or at least with the final release of vb3. there are many features that may or may not be implemented without drastic results, but i guess i'm not alone in thinking that speed and reliability are priority #1. and #2. well, whatever, you get my point. ;)

*sigh* again this shitty board is SLOW as HELL, I got to the main page, but after trying 3 times to get to DT forum I decided fuck it, it started loading it and would stand there, most likely, til eternity, no errors, no page not found, it would just load.
I don't know if it's the software or the piece of shit servers it's run on, I had the same problem at times on the old version too.
I gave it an hour and now I am here. This thing really sucks ass. And still no NP option.

it did the same to me one hour ago. i think it's the server. and i'm not sure i understand why getting a better server is not where mark's efforts seem to be going. to me, it's the only serious problem this place has got.

Being able to see the amount of guests on a specific forum is interesting. I'm curious as to how many lurkers there are on this board.

That thingie works also with specific thread..

And that is big + .

And you can check from the person´s profile which thread/forum he/she is viewing at the moment.
Niiiiice.. :)

is it just me, or does the board run slower now?

and where's the n/p thing?

i asked mark: today it's slower because he's working on it. the now playing option will be back as soon as changes are over, which i hope is soon indeed. :)
