comments, questions and tips about ultimatemetal upgrade

i asked mark: today it's slower because he's working on it.

And here excatly lies the problem with this site, work on it, then put it online, not the other way around.
And why the hell was the upgrade needed anyway, haven't they still learned, if it ain't fucking broken don't mess with it.

@salmy: i agree the upgrade wasn't needed, especially when there were server/navigation problems to be solved still. however, i think mark and the rest of his staff (if there's any, i'm not sure) are really working hard. i'm sure we could disagree on a lot of their decisions, but i wouldn't be so hard on them. just my two cents anyway. :)

*mpf*
i just found out that if you delete a post i can still read it (with "i" i mean "the moderator") and get to decide whether to leave a sad "this post has been deleted" message on the thread - where you just see that text and not the actual content - or remove it entirely. of course i'm gonna painstakingly remove all traces of your deleted posts. i'm sorry i even get to see what you wrote in the first place, i hope you trust me enough to understand that (a) it's not my choice and (b) whatever you've written in those messages, to me it's just like it never existed.

@steve420: don't worry steve. first of all there are quite strict rules about reputation so that people can't just diss you again and again. secondarily, i'm sure nobody on this board will ever judge you because of your "reputation points". what you say is what matters, not the green rectangle.

I think i'll add some reputation to Steve, just because he's not Opeth's bitch. ;)

Hey, I just noticed that if you put the cursor over the green reputation-thingy under your avatar that a little saying comes up sometimes. All I've seen so far is "so-and-so is on a distinguished road" and "whomever will oneday be famous." Does this have to do with reputation points? It doesn't come up for everyone.....weird.

Overall, I like the new layout, though. I'm sure the few things we all don't like will be fixed soon enough.

@humanure: yes, it's about reputation points. it's quite a complex system full of restrictions. i'll maybe post a short guide to it as soon as i understand exactly how it works.

i hate what happens when you push the "enter" key while typing in the quick reply box.

hm i don't get the whole reputation thingie. is it that green dot below the av? how is it influenced? where can i do messy things to other people's reps? :D

@vultureculture: you can't. :p
basically, you can give either good or bad reputation to each user just once in a very long while, and you can't give that much good or bad rep to thousands of users in a row either. the more posts you have, the more you giving rep seems to influence the recipient's reputation points. the thing is a bit blurry, but if you're interested there are threads on the new "bugs&problems" forum. :)

I noticed there a difference using and embedding hyperlinks in Linux with Mozilla and Windows with IE5.0. IE won't let me add words to my link, in other words, putting hyperlinks within a word(s).

I wonder why some ppl. have 2 of those green little squares (those that either say only the user-name, or xy is on a distinguished road, or xy will be famous soon enough). is this an indication that they reached a number of rep-points higher than the counter can count (f.ex.: 0-99; and when you have more than 99, you get another square which again counts from 0-99, etc.) ?

slowly, nothing on UM surprises me anymore :Spin:
I'm just waiting for a traffic-light-scheme: green for good reputation, yellow for a certain warning-level you've reached (or maybe number of negative rep.-points?) and red for: let's slaughter the fucker
 :err:
