I consider myself pretty good on the computer, but Ive got a problem I just cannot make go away!
I use Mozilla, but Im getting a ton of pop-ups all the time, and yes, Ive gone into the internet options and turned the pop-up blocker on. I use Ad-aware and registry mechanic and norton professional, and on top of that I have the windows XP firewall up too. So I dont know what else to do to make the pop-ups go away! :ill:
Any suggestions or help would be soooooo much appriciated

its not porn pop-ups, its like "push the fart button" and "whats your zodiac sign?" kinda thing. Im the only one who uses this computer, and I cant honestly say Im much of a porn surfer.

if you right click on the pop-up window and click 'properties' it should give you a url address for the pop-up. You can then type that url into the ignore list in your security settings.

you could possibly have spyware or adware or something like that, i barely ever get popups using firefox. you could try the other stuff listed here and then maybe get a program like adaware to get rid of some of it. thats worked for me before.

Well she said she had ad-aware, so it's probably spyware if it's anything. ad-aware is a pretty snazzy program.

When I right click the pop-up, there is no properties option.
How do you change the security settings for the pop-up blocker?
Im downloading spybot now, but Ad-aware dosent seem to help at all.

This is probably unrelated but if you're using the Norton Firewall you should turn the Windows one off.

no properties when you right click? It should be at the very bottom of the menu...

Security Settings: Go to Internet options; Security; Restricted Sites. Toss it in.

Spybot is a nice program, it should be able to locate what it is you've got (if you have anything) and destroy it.

maybe I have a different version of Mozilla, my internet options dont give me those options, and I dont have properties

yes, Ive been "hmmmming" for quite some time now. Stupid Spybot costs money, so I gotta forget that for now, being the broke bum I am :p .
I can get properties for some pages, like UM for example, but it dosent give me a location for the site or any options really, and I cant get properties for any of the popups. I just reinstalled mozilla too, hoping that would do the trick, but it hasnt helped. :(

For starters, use Opera. http://www.opera.com

Next, fuck Adaware and fuck Norton.

For your Spyware removal needs, use SpyBot: Search and Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
Keep up to date with the definition files on SpyBot (Updates). They update very often.

For an Antivirus, use AVG Free: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5 or http://free.grisoft.com/softw/70free/setup/avg71free_394a757.exe
AVG Updates very often, way more than McAfee and Norton. Plus, their definition files are more efficient.....and it's fucking free! Keep this up to date. Also, the section in the program titled 'Test Center' is the scan.

Edit: Also, be wary of Reg Cleaners and such. Most of them are spyware themselves.

As for your Firewall, you can get away with using the Windows XP firewall. Though, if you have the resources to get programs for no charge, I suggest you use SyGate. I have used it for three years now and in my personal opinion, it's the best firewall you can get. I'm paranoid when it comes to security since I know how stuff is exploited so I only trust the best. Plus, it logs everything so you can see when and where packets are sent to/from.

I use Ad-Aware, and never have any problems it gets rid of all spyware. Do you have the Free version of Ad-Aware. I up my game and purchased the professional and it kills all. You definatly have a some spyware camping deep in your pc. I agree with the AVG free, it rocks. Better than the ones you buy, plus it updates all the time.

You should also checkout PC Pitstop Optimizer, it rocks as well. Clean out a bunch of shit that boggs down you internet.

I'll think on it - but spybot has a shareware version you should be able to download, install and use, if at least for a trial period.

Use IE, like me.

I don't have any problems with spyware atm, but back when I did, I used this other program called SpywareBlaster. Basically disabled connections from those sites, and didnt have to run in the background either. Try it!
