I think I'll go Mac despite my hate for the trend.

Main reason is for Logic and the second is the "Core Audio" which is supposed to be so damn good.

I really like my current experience as a Windows 7 user with my FA-66 interface. Latency exists a little but I direct monitor so those few milliseconds of latency are.. huh.. supposed to disturb what ?

Talk to me

Trend? Have most pro studios and top level producers not been using Mac for the last 15 years? It's simply a matter or choice based on personal taste and the tools needed. I've been loving the switch to mac. Windows terrifies me now.

If you want Logic, you'll definitely need Mac OS. You can buy a Mac or build a hackintosh. I know a few dudes on here run them... I had a macbook, sold it and got a 21.5" quad iMac. Best piece of gear I own.

Latency doesn't hurt most people. I run a profire 2626 in my home rig and just have Pro Tools set to 128 sample buffer size. No issues with that....

It's not only "core audio" It is more the way MAC OS handles Audio inside the kernel .... Far better than Windows. Mac OSX has a dedicated priority level for all media stuff (and of course its core audio layer). You can achieve better latency and less click and pop on similar hardware between OSX and Win7

I'm not fond of OSX because I'm a Windows guy, and in front of mac OSX, i'm totally lost ! As software developper, i hate developping on OSX (question of taste), but i had to admit, the apple guys had some really good ideas they put in their OS!

On Windows, you have to check to tweak a bit to ensure to get a platform that can handle audio processing. I struggled a lot with my new laptop to get rid off a click/pop every minute. Finally, it was the software that manages the FN Key .... Such crap, you would never had on OSX. (but, now, i'm happy with my laptop and WIN7)

Yes. I agree with you 100%! This is exactly the way I thought it was between the two. I myself am a PC guy but I need something for college that's mobile and can handle the audio recording I do on the side. This Core audio stuff seems solid. A MBP is on the list.
