Again it appears that you are in the "if it doesn't sound tuff" phase. You'll grow out of it. In time you will see that albums like Don't Break the Oath and Abigail kick the shit out 99% of metal. And the King's vocals are a big part of that shit-kicking.

Couldn't agree more. I went through that phase myself when I was younger. Now I realize how great King Diamond and Fate actually were and still are. Personally I still buy King Diamond albums when they are released. Nothing beats Abigail, Them, and Conspiracy in my opinion, but his new albums still have some good stuff on them. If one is really interested in metal as music and not simply as image, then King Diamond is a must.

Yup. Everything Fate and King did in the 80's is freakin' classic. Since then it's been real hit and miss.

King Diamond has the worst 'corpsepaint' on the face of the earth.

King Diamonds face paint pre-dates calling face paint corpse paint.

What do they teach you kids in metal school these days? :erk:

The point is Ender, that KD was wearing it before the corpse paint wearing pansy-boys skulking about in pine forests got hold of it.

It's theatrical, as most of his performances are. What would you prefer ? That he goes out on stage without make up, which would essentially make him a middle aged Danish guy with a bad moustache? Showmanship isn't a dirty word. No one (well, few) people make a huge issue of Bruce Dickinsons ridiculous penchant for tight spandex trousers, Rob Halfords ludicrous stage get up or the fact that Lemmy has worn the same pair of cowboy boots since 1981.

1) In terms of style, you can't really call KDs face paint corpse paint. I's far too elaborate for that.

2) Even if you do, he was one of, if not THE first to use it in conjunction with somewhat satanic lyrics.

3) Having an "image" and a mystique only serves to enhance the KD/MF package.

King Diamond is a great vocalist.I remember when I used to drop acid and listen to his creepy music on vinyl brand new at the time. His storytelling on his albums are very well written.I never thought of it as Black Metal though. At the time of Mercyful Fate releases Hellhammer sounded much more like Black Metal as I know it.But at that time very few bands played that style compared to what the future brought.

Besides the vocal department, King Diamond and Fate had some excellent guitar work going on. The musicians who back up the King had alot to do with his success, which I'm sure he would be first to admit.
