Believe it or not, I am not really a Crue fan, but am a Mick Mars fan. Mick Mars is not a technical genious and has never claimed to be one (as he is a cool and humble guy), but I can hear a new Motley Crue song for five seconds and know it is them because Mick Mars has "his" sound all his own and I respect that. I respect Mick Mars because he is the most instantly recognizable guitarist in metal.
I saw the Crue in concert a few years ago and Vince was so out of breath it wasn't funny. Nikki moved around on stage pretty well and put on a decent show. Tommy turned fucking flips in his drum cage and that was amazing, but Mick was unglamorously (sp?) perfect. He was such a fucking serious musician. Had Mick Mars not been the guitarist for The Crue, they would have just fell apart years ago. He gives that band stability and professionalism.
