For some reason whenever I get Cubase to ping the roundtrip through my outboard it never sets any delay compensation. Surely, just a roundtrip through an DA/AD loop should add a few ms?

Is there a special way I need to work this feature, because no matter what I've done it's given me a readout of 0ms.

Thanks guys.

Really strange, I still running my sx3 (legit of course:D) and you can find this feature if you use your outboard gear on insert;)

How do you have your external FX set up? The other day I had it so the FX out was set up but I had the in as a regular input because I wanted to record to another track, and not just use it as an insert.

you have to set it up as a true loop to use the ping function - but it still doesn't do shit. I'm sure it does if you are using it as an insert, but if you are recording to a new track, you still have to drag the file by hand, and it sucks.

I'm using it as an insert. It's a loop.

Also, Cubendo doesn't like you assigning your outbard as part of your ins and outs as well as an External FX loop. It will wipe one or the other, so you need to keep flipping your I/O settings over depending on how you're working. Absolute piece of shit.

I once tried the longest possible route I could... 4 compressors and 3 multifx's and then I ran out of balanced leads, but still got something redicilously low like 4ms latency. but when using the m350 via spdif, I always get me zero ms latency

it really shouldn't matter how many outboard pieces you're running through, unless maybe there's latency being introduced by digital FX units. you should have the same amount of latency on sending a track out & back through one compressor as you would if there were 1000 chained together.

...it's just like how they say that with a live TV broadcast, it takes more time for the audio to travel from your TV to your ear than it does for the signal to cross the planet and reach your TV

Depend of hardware, I don't do this actually (cause I run a firepod but I move to a fireface in January) but I had experiment with my midiverb IV through my firepod and I get 6ms latency:goggly:

yeah it's rubbish. sometimes it causes me to be lazy and just not send stuff out to the distressor cause it's such a royal pain in the ass. I wish they would do something about this.
