I don't listen to it often anymore but it's good album to return to every now and then. The vocals are an acquired taste, though, as they tend to piss off many people. I don't mind them.

Technically brilliant, artistically vapid.

Just save yourself the trouble and download the demos. Much, much better....

cynic is great. they mix everything greatly. and the music, is genuinely fucked up, in a good way. the singer changes his voice with a synth ax ( i believe) and the bass player plays a chapman stick often. wow. true gods . i only wish i could get to see them

Great album, but the vocoder vocals haven't aged well. The songs are really well written though. The production works well in the more ambient passages, but the heavier parts sound cluttered and the distorted guitars sound thin. It was a benchmark in tech-death when it came out though. And they pulled it off amazingly live, their show at the Marquee Club in London in '93 still rates as one of my fave metal gigs.

was one of those albums that took a while to get into, and once it did i couldnt stop listening to it

Precisely! It drips with potential, but never goes anywhere or says anything. This is another one of those "revisionist classics." It was interesting at the time...but I recall no one who was really all that impressed then, despite the obvious technical proficiency displayed.
