I agree with this. The songs themselves seem pretty miserable too. I don't really get the acclaim that this album receives.

The robot vocals ruin it for me. Otherwise, amazing musicianship.

I always had a problem with the robot vocals also, but can get past them. The robot vocals are not as prominent as the other vocals. I guess the album has been reissued and remastered so will eventually pick it up someday.

A Spanish band called Unreal Overflows released an album last year, called Architecture of Incomprehension. It's a big Cynic/Atheist-fan album, so GET IT!
