DAMNATION II IN THE FUTURE SOMETIME ?????????

I wasn't a huge fan of Damnation, but if they made something a little bit more creative and complex (with more acoustics, I wouldn't be dissapointed in anticipating another mellow album.

Damnation is one of my favorite Opeth albums, but I believe Mikael said that it was "a one-time deal," and that it would be unlikely for them to do another one.

Watershed is pretty mellow compared to their other non-Damnation stuff, though.

Because the FAQ is somehow invisible to some people...

Why is Damnation so different to their other albums?

The idea was for the band to do one really heavy album after Blackwater Park. However, Mikael had all these acoustic parts that he didn't know what to do with. So a friend of theirs - Jonas from Katatonia - had the idea for the band to release an all-mellow album. Thinking this was a great idea, the band went ahead and created Damnation. It's an experiment, and as Mikael has said in the past: also exclusive. We shouldn't expect to see another album like this from Opeth.

Damnation sucks.
Only has 2.75 decent songs.

was a cool idea with damnation/deliverance, but i like deliverance because they didn't limit themselves to only heavy sounds, whereas damnation could've benefited from having a few heavier parts (end of Closure, maybe ending credits).

The album seemed very 'electronic' to me. There weren't enough acoustic guitars (to my liking) used and I would have preferred something along the lines of Morningrise mellow sections.

Man, +1, that's exactly what I think. Too much clean-tone electric, not enough acoustic. Also, I wished the songs were a bit longer and, well, more like regular Opeth songs, but mellow. Ten-minute songs with lots of parts and adventurousness would have been bad-ass. Oh well. *sigh*

I would love another soft album, but more acoustic, less clean electric, as has been stated before. Hearing Per sing some lead vocals could be cool, as apparently he has a good rock voice.

Next Opeth's gonna be a double album [quadruple LP] where they go through all the motions, add the new influences from Watershed, but with a brutality-clean ratio of 85% - 15%. It's gonna be dark, haunting, epic, progressive, hardon.
But no "Damnation 2"..
