Overrated = Earning much more praise and popularity than the band deserves based on their talent compared to other bands in the genre.

DT has never been able to headline a US tour, they weren't nominated in the Swedish grammys despite critical acclaim, and their sales are smaller than Soilworks' or In Flames', despite having a longer career than either band, and several albums which are considered classics in their genre. They certainly have earned critical acclaim and aknowledgement within a limited metal scene, but financially the band's popularity is very small. As far as I remember, Opeth and In Flames live off of their music, whereas members of DT work in supermarkets.

Dark Tranquillity is AWESOME! I ran across them on the internet a while back. WAY before I'd heard of Opeth. I think it was right when they released projektor, and they had a couple tracks for download - freecard and therein.

I've loved them ever since.

Damage Done isn't really my favorite from them though. I like Projektor and to a certain extent, the Gallery WAY more. Projektor is still my favorite.

There are lots of bands that haven't been able to headline a US tour that are great bands. Since when do sale's mean a band is not as good or better than another? Just how many metal bands live and survive just off of their music alone? Some foolish and naive statements I believe.

I only see one band listed that is (in my opinion) better that DT. That, of course, would be Opeth.

In fact, I think that some of those choices are preposterous.

System of a Down. They are good, but their music is simple and their lyrics are not that great.

Accept. I am not even going there.

The Beach Boys? Nope, I doubt it.

Nirvana? Their music is even simpler than System of a Down. You seriously believe that they were better than Dark Tranquillity???

Cannibal Corpse are a joke. Their album covers, however, rule.

I guess it is all a matter of opinion, but I am confused as to how anyone could think that even half of those bands are better than DT....
 
It's all down to opinion people, and IMO, Damage Done is a rancid piece of shit. Can't stand it.

It's completely sterile,devoid of emotion, interesting riffs, agression for the sake of it and lucklustre keyboard noodlings. Hate it.

I would agree with svenske kocken, they are way overrated. Flame away

What exactly is your criteria for comparing these bands to Dark Tranquillity? They're all different genres, and thus cannot be compared, unless you're talking about mad chopz, in which case DT would own most of those bands, with the exception of Cryptopsy and Cynic and MAYBE Dream Theater. Basically, all you did was list bands that YOU thought were better, based on personal preference, which is a fairly retarded way of going about trying to prove your point.

But, hey, whatever works for ya, bud.

The four bands on the kids list that are good in my opinion are

Opeth
Edge Of Sanity
Cannibal Corpse
Nightingale


"Damage Done" is OK, in my opinion. It doesn't blow me away,but I am gonna get "The Gallery" and see how good they really are.
